Re: Recent purchases

Alright, here are all five Lomax LPs for Jakob and whoever else wanted them: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NXCENE0C Each record, rather than being divided thematically, gives a pretty good cross-section of blues / country / bluegrass / gospel / ballads / congregational stuff so you never really know ...

Re: Recent purchases

Chad: I think it set me back like 25ppd from Euroland? It was cheap. Certainly cost much less than the ZORN LP. Both took fucking forever to find though.

All five volumes of Mississippi Records' reissues of Alan Lomax field recordings from the deep south.

Re: Ire - What Seed, What Root?

MONSTER Record. I rarely see LP copies crop up, but they're out there. On par with the best of other great '90s Montreal / Ottawa bands (OEGP, Uranus, Drift).
The 7" and the first LP are also good but the split with Seized is pretty awful on both sides.

Re: Recent purchases

Nice. I heard that it was mastered slightly differently / better than the OG. I was curious to compare but not enough to run around tracking a repress copy down. I probably should though, since this is one of the better things that human culture has ever produced.

Re: 90's music

Really glad somebody posted The Refreshments! Legitimately wonderful one hit wonder band who wrote great twangy pop songs with sardonic lyrics. Both full lengths have been on constant rotation for me for like 14 years now.

Re: Recent purchases

Honestly, the 7"s and the first LP don't do a whole lot for me. But Setting Fire to Sinking Ships kills all life stone dead forever.

Re: Black Metal: The ketchup of heavy music

Ketchup was tastier in the '90s, but there is some pretty delicious ketchup being concocted now if you go to the right grocery stores.
