Vonnegut is great but that is a granfaloon you're riding, man. I just got done with Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. I am of the belief that the space inside the mind is infinite. Tom Robbins lights a few candles every time I let him in there... This was no different. Great shit. Everything is a part of it. Up next is some Burroughs for to gain more understanding of what it is to be a careless drug addict, to see if I still have any empathy left. Don't want to fail a Voigt-Kampf and get my fucking head blown in.
Re: Books you are currently reading
i couldn't stand still life with woodpecker. i had it recommended by two people who like a lot of the same things as i do and just...ugh. that book did not do it for me.

jeff leant me catcher in the rye and carrie, i've finished the former (definitely too late in my life to fully appreciate it but i enjoyed the read) and am now starting on the latter, of which I have seen the movie and am now discovering how the book is of course way better. reading is neat.
Re: Books you are currently reading
i don't usually like stephen king that much but i remember loving carrie. i watched the movie after reading the book and was so disappointed.

Re: Books you are currently reading
never read a stephen king book before (or really "horror" books in general although I don't know if I'd call it that) but I ended up blasting through it in like 2 days, seriously one of the best things I've read in a long time. After digging through some old, dusty bookshelf in a remote corner of my basement I now have a huge pile of misc. reading material, currently starting on Foundation by Isaac Asimov who my dad has encouraged me to check out in the past.grungePIG wrote:i don't usually like stephen king that much but i remember loving carrie. i watched the movie after reading the book and was so disappointed.

I havn't read a Stephen King book in years, but the couple I did read it always felt like he wrote until he was bored of the story and then just abruptly wraps it up.
Anyone else find that?

I have read through most of "IT" by king, honestly I can't get into it. I've tried a few of his books and they never really take for me. "IT" specifically, because it jumps around so much and some angles never really get mentioned more than once, leaving me to wonder why King brought them up at all.

I support the reading of Foundation.trappedinside wrote:never read a stephen king book before (or really "horror" books in general although I don't know if I'd call it that) but I ended up blasting through it in like 2 days, seriously one of the best things I've read in a long time. Actually, I would say you should read Foundation and then go over to Ender's Game. I really like how they both deal with power on a small level vs power on a larger level.

The History of Human Rights: From Ancient Times to the Globalization Era by Micheline R. Ishay
WORST. If I wasn't reading this for my history class I would use it to prop up a table.

Hell yeah it does! Got some Hunter S. for 10bux and an old PKD paperback for 4 bucks at Russel last week, got some first edition PKD at Dark Horse, always in the one on Johnson for fringe book needs, and there's this smaller one on Fort, I think, that had an old copy of Jitterbug Perfume in its window a few days ago! The one I have not been to in ages and is GREAT for nice collectors' hardcovers...the one in that alley downtown...WHERE IS IT AND WHAT THE HELL IS IT CALLED??? I can't find the damn place anymore! Too many alleys with shops.Andrew wrote:Victoria has some amazing book stores.
