Bumped this since i like reading more than I like listening to obscure bands.
recently read:
Hollywood - Bukowski
-I love Bukowski, and I loved this. Every time I read him I need to smoke too many cigarettes and drink too much wine.
Brave New World - Huxley
-it took me a long time to get into this book. Once I hit halfway I started to enjoy it, but then it fizzled again. I can't say it's a great read, but it's genius and I'm glad I finally gave-it-a-go.
Slaughterhouse 5 - Vonnegut
-I haven't been disappointed by Vonnegut before and this certainly exceeded my expectations. Brilliant.

just started The Grapes Of Wrath - Steinbeck and it's blowing my mind. I read Of Mice and Men in high-school and I remember loving that, but for some reason never indulged in more of his work, but I'm so glad I'm reading this.

Anyone read Oryx and Crake by Atwood? I was told it's a must-read but I've never enjoyed Atwood so I'm weary to endeavor...

What's yer favourite Bukowski? Unfortunately sold all mine recently, but Women is by far the best... I spent about a year reading some Bukowski every night. He made me want to grow old...

I'm reading some Tim Leary, and then I get started on Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey. Then perhaps Trout Fishing in America, picked up a pristine copy from Dark Horse. Brautigan paperbacks are probably the niftiest looking books I have ever seen.

I liked Post Office the best so far but I haven't read them all - still have women and HWM to read. He makes me enjoy growing old drunk.
Also picked up Naked Lunch (Burroughs) today and i'm excited to crack it.

Picked up a shit ton of books on my roadtrip. Been simultaneously reading From Hell by Alan Moore (actually finished it last night, extremely jarring as well as impressive in terms of the amount of research that must've gone into it), Leonard Cohen's Beautiful Losers, 9 Stories by Salinger (my first taste of him, haven't read Catcher), and Animal Liberation by Peter Singer. I think everyone should give that last one a go, vegans and animal rights activists as well as people who've never given a thought to the movement or those who have even opposed it. It's arguments are solid and clearly outlined.

The Arms of Krupp - William Manchester

For anyone with a penchant for history this is a very interesting read on the Krupp family who designed and sold armaments to all of Europe for much of resent history.
