924 Gilman

Post by dalamar501 »

I know most of us are poor but yeah thought i would repost this

http://www.924gilman.org/blog/?p=116
On July 1, 2010 our rent will increase by nearly $3000.00 a month, jeopardizing the future of 924 Gilman.

A little background…

The club’s rent has been increasing every year for the last twenty three years, and up until now we’ve been able to make the adjustments needed to compensate for those increases, but what we are facing now is the equivalent of having twenty years of rent increases condensed into one, and once it goes into effect the clock will begin to tick away as we struggle to generate the extra $31,000.00 a year needed to cover this massive rent hike.

We need your support!

Please use the donate button below and give whatever you can to help 924 Gilman face this latest challenge to our existence. If you make a donation of $25.00 or more, then we will send you a Gilman t-shirt or tote bag as a token of our appreciation. Please add special instructions when you make a donation indicating your t-shirt size.

Thank you in advance for all of your help.
If i had some extra money or maybe i will be able to scrounge some up i would totally donate as well Gilman really makes me think of the type of venue i would like to start here and how it has been around for so long on the west coast.

this really sucks! a couple weekends ago when i saw 7 seconds at gilman kevin seconds was talking about how gilman was like the last of the legendary punk venues that was still around, maybe he spoke too soon. as much as I dont want gilman to shut down, asking for paypal donations is like putting a bandaid over a bullet wound. maybe they will get the 3000 for the first month, but what about august, then september, etc. unless they plan on pulling in 3000 a month in donations they are not going to stay afloat by doing this. I really hope the landlords can be talked into a reasonable rate because that place is amazing.

if you read some of the staff comments on the page they say this is not the only thing they are doing and are also trying to get official non-profit status as well as grants or something like that
