are you serious? calling me a fair weather kid because I didn't go to a show at a DTES bar that has become over run with hipsters and hardcore kids. a fair weather kid because for possibly the first time in my life before discovering punk/hardcore responsibility outweighed my need to go to a show? I wasn't at that show because at midnight that night i was still moving into my new place. don't you dare give me shit for the one night I didn't go to a hardcore show. and if you are going to give me shit for not being at a show it better be at an all ages show. all ages is the lifeblood of hardcore. in my eyes if a show isn't all ages its doing nothing for hardcore and is merely a bar show with hardcore bands playing, believe it or not but I do see a huge difference. hardcore is meant to be by the kids, for the kids blah blah blah. as soon as a show is at a bar it is no longer accessible to the kids whom this(encompassing hardcore and punk) is most vital to. so I am so very sorry I had to move on the 30th(weird I know).

Dont get me wrong, if people want to go to barshows thats fine. I do go to them from time to time. but dont try and call me out for missing a show at a bar.

If "the kids" dont wanna sneak into a bar out of principle maybe they should channel that passion into getting an out of town band an all ages show.

i dont personally know of anyone who was approached to do this show all ages, had i not been moving that day and had I been asked i would have booked an all ages frustration show in a heartbeat, neal is a sweet prince

dudes from Ill Intent booked the tour. They hang out at the Biltmore and are friends with Nicola. Path of least resistance. If no one stands up and says Ill do the show and make it all ages they can only stick with the offer given and Nicola gets a good price for the stage being that she works at the Biltmore

I cant speak any more for them other than path of least resistance. When Neal gets back in a couple weeks we can all talk about this at great length.
The show was awesome, the new songs are awesome and this band should get all the love in the world

I book shows in Vancouver/ Langley/ lower mainland. I would've booked them an AA show. Only way to go.

Classic hardcore show...*

QFT. Every scene has one or two of those guys. I'm definitely one of them. Although, I do my best to find various members of the bands I see and tell them how much I like their set. I'm just not into going off.

Also, that show looked hella fun. Wish I could have made it.

EDIT: Holy shit, missed those last few posts. Uh...what? I dunno. Seems a wasted argument. There are bands I'll book in bars, there are bands I'll only do AA shows for. Depends on who the crowd going for said band is. I tend to think that there's a completely different scene within hardcore when it comes to bars, and I try and do my best when booking (mind you I've been mainly helping other people out lately, and not actually booking myself) to fit the right band to the right venue.

I also think that to an extent, Hunter is right, and that AA shows are definitely an incredibly important part of hardcore, and should never ever stop. That's why the Society does their best to put on more AA shows than bar shows.

Eh, it's all intellectual jerking off. A show is a show is a show. I'll go watch bands if they're underneath a bridge...which has actually happened in Vic a couple of times. Heard they were pretty sweet.

I think it's silly to get worked up over whether a venue is a bar or not...about as silly as saying that underage kids who don't want to sneak into a bar aren't passionate enough.

Oh, and to reference an earlier point brought up by Zach and Puff...I saw Embrace Today play a bar...twice. SUPER awkward, especially when they said "If you don't respect straightedge get the fuck out" and half the crowd left.

This is inviting, but its hard to get into this kind of second hand arguement. I lack some necessary first hand knowledge.

Id really like to see how this show would have done at an all ages venue in Vancouver and who under 19 and those who vehemently oppose bar shows would have showed up if it was. Im of the opinion that it would not have balanced out with the price of any vancouver all ages venue vs the price of the astoria for the night. I didnt get IDed until 2 bands in. Show was only 8 dollars.
