there are a lot of options but I really suggest going with either a vintage ebay Gilette or a german Merkur. I've heard lots of really bad stuff about some of the cheaper japanese and chinese DEs, and that's because quality control is super key because even a fraction of a mm difference can make a world of difference. my Super Speed is definitely on the light side of things. Merkur makes some way heftier ones than my 38C, so maybe check out their product line and see what you like. I don't see the need for an open comb. and avoid the slant razors because that's just kind of a weird gimmick for bored shaving nerds.

the "best" one is supposed to be a vintage Gilette "Fatboy" adjustable. all of mine are non-adjustable, and that's purely for the reason that I wanted to keep it simple. adjustable means being able to adjust how much blade-to-guard ratio you get. there are dudes who are all about going for the most killer side on an adjustable and combining that with a super sharp blade, but I don't want to be that mean to my skin. most non-adjustable ones are usually sort of medium on the adjustable scale and that should be fine for pretty much anyone. and non-adjustables are usually less prone to breaking and way less expensive. oh, while we're on the topic, check out the Merkur Futur. shit looks like a fucking spaceship. it has a good reputation as another adjustable one though.

http://badgerandblade.com/ has lots of reviews and forum stuff to help inform your search. I don't know much about the other vintage Gilettes but I bet you could do your research and get a good, hefty, non-adjustable vintage Gilette for next to nothing.

definitely going to look into that for the summer.

Today I used my Breidora 4/8 (spike point) with my AoS (sandlewood) shave soap and finished it off with some Hand made in Portland "Old Fashioned aftershave splash" (tobacco scent).

Pretty good shave. One of the lucky days I managed to build a good lather with the AoS shave soap.
