Re: 90's music
Really glad somebody posted The Refreshments! Legitimately wonderful one hit wonder band who wrote great twangy pop songs with sardonic lyrics. Both full lengths have been on constant rotation for me for like 14 years now.

Here is what I was listening, not necessarily what was the best

Re: 90's music
The 90's was a bit of a roller-coaster ride in terms of Music for me. Here's my story.
grade 7
Puberty had me fascinated with my recorded tape of 2 Live Crew's As Nasty As They Wanna Be
and of course, Pop Rap and New Jack Swing were all the rage (props to the Bill Bev Devoe mention earlier)
Grade 8/9 Skateboarding takes precedence, Homies vs Skater feud is at it's pinnicle, I swear off rap.
terminator 2... yes please
but, there are two things in rap i did not swear off

Grade 9/10 Grunge, of course.

Re: 90's music
now, I was truly a 'Grunge' bandwagon jumper... at the time, never got much past the surface. Other things (such as smoking as much weed as humanly possible) took the front seat. By grade 10 the homie vs skater feud had chilled significantly and hip hop started to take over Skate Videos, thus it became OK for me to like it again.
The song that convinced me to revisit rap
Del's no need for alarm remains one of my favourite hip hop albums of all time
long before 'northern touch' if you lived in vancouver and liked hip hop you were all about The Rascalz first record (which is actually really tight and holds up)
this is how we chilled
skateboard/backpack/stoner hip hop gave way to delusions of being a badass. I remember being released from holding sells after being totally wasted with this song in my head one morning in 1995.
anyhow, if you've ever seen an old 5th Ward tag around North Vancouver there is a good chance myself or a friend of mine put it up... so of course...
still in heavy roatation

This was one of the only reasons to endure that awful Much West show that used to be on Sunday nights.heyjealousy wrote: vancouver hotness:
