I still feel that what I said was accurate. I really don't believe that everyone from Vancouver is like this, but I also feel that there are enough people in Vancouver who act like this and treat us this way that it's a valid point. `

Maybe Danny is right though. Maybe I am just bringing people down around here. I think I'll be deleting my account now. If I'm genuinely hurting the place, then it'll be for the good. If I'm not, well fuck it I'm on the internet too much anyway, this will be a good way to free up my time.

Think I'll be doing the same for my Facebook. This social media shit is getting out of hand.

Anybody who needs to get a hold of me has my phone number anyway. It would be nice to talk to people instead of writing it out and having it misconstrued or writing it out and making an ass of myself.

great, now Willa's not posting on here anymore, even though we had our stepping on each other toes duel, I genuinely felt that he had very insightful post.

I would also like to say that I too feel the same way about victoria's treatment as Willa. I am also choosing not to get specific about things.

I would also like to say that I can conduct my self as a decent human being drunk or sober (or high).

but, seriously, don't like the lineup don't come. if you want to come have a fun time and hangout with cool people from all over the place, then by all means please come so we can have as much fun as possible.

So looks like you can't actually delete accounts on here. I messaged Tyler and asked him to perma ban me. Been real, guys.

Willa's post is backed. Sorry if that upsets anybody, and I can understand the urge to get hyper defensive but telling somebody that their experience is wrong, that they should be alright with how they're treated or having local hardcore celebrities accuse them of mental illness doesn't exactly inspire confidence for future dialogue. It's also unfair to frame this as just something that Willa is ranting about, when at least two other people, three including myself have indicated that they agree with his general sentiment. Somebody should Michael Dorn the relevant parts of this thread.

As a board member of VIHC who probably has the least wide-ranging taste in hardcore in general, why is it so hard to back bands who you aren't into? I think the biggest glaring lack of respect here is publicly attacking something we're working so hard on. You are entitled to your opinion, but what purpose does broadcasting on a medium we are using to promote the festival serve? You aren't just expressing this to us, who are organizing the festival. You are very literally making a public effort to discourage people from coming, and you're surprised that some of us are getting mad? Why didn't you just send us an email or drop us a line?

I guess its funnier bating people into an argument on a forum but this isn't make-believe land here, this isn't calling people on Call of Duty a <insert racial/sexual expletive>. I've spent literally thousands of dollars putting on shows for bands who I don't even like because my friends do, and because those friends back bands I bring to the island that they don't like. If we can't cooperate on these things how the fuck can we expect to survive?

And you know what, my friends from the island they come to me and say "why are you bringing X band, they fucking suck" but they say it to my face, not on a forum that I'm jocking the bands on. And then we have a discussion like the one above where I say "oh those are my bros" or "so-and-so is putting the show on and I'm just helping" or "fuck you, I like them you little shit" and then we're still friends because they aren't trying to sabotage what I fucking live for.

i was going to say something like that when whoever originally complained about whatever band but no matter how hard I tried I just sounded like an asshole who likes yelling at people. Which I totally am, but it didn't really seem appropriate. Your super power is calmly and politely explaining things. My super power is having even perfect strangers afraid to talk to me. We should fight petty crime.

Edit: And mean suuuuuuper petty crime, like loitering.

Warren and I don't like Deadbeat just because they're a shitty band. We know the dudes in the band we know who they're friends with and the fact that they're the kind of kids who just like to get loaded/are using hardcore as a way to gain some bullshit popularity and call people they don't like faggots. I do remember opening for their old band when we were in AFTB and getting called emo faggots by their friends so fuck right off if you think our complaints with the band are merely their lack of musical skill well not skill but type of music we like. The "draw" they have isn't the type of people who'd I want to be coming to fest I put so much effort into putting on. They're the one who will drink at venues etc because you know what they don't give a shit about Victoria's scene or Vancouver's scene.

-D

Still stoked on this fest but I'll just chill outside while this band is playing.

Then they will be asked to leave. If they use the F word they will be asked to leave.

I'm glad you are still interested in comming, and refusing to watch a band is fine. But your comment about the fest lacking this year made me sad and angry, and to be honest I can't believe that I bit my tongue, and I'm going to continue to do so.

I will post the order of bands in like.. 15 minutes guys relaxxxx

It's just lacking in our opinion. It's not against you or anything. I'm actually more excited about the fest than he is but I'm sure tons and tons of kids are stoked on this fest and they should be!

But one more thing about Willa's post I think it's unfair to say you dudes don't care about our opinion as much as kids on the island. We bus to the ferry, pay for the ferry(both ways),bus to someones house to sleep on their floor for three days and then do it all again at the end of the weekend. So I dunno it's just weird that he'd say that because we actually put in close to the most effort coming to the fest.

The point is that when you come here and post that you think the fest is lacking, weather you like it or not or believe it or not it serves to actively discourage people from coming. If only one person would decide not to come because of your post that's still one less ticket sold to cover our costs and one more ticket sale away from being able to do this again in the future. You're certainly entitled to your opinions, but that doesn't mean that we have just have to grin and bear it when what your saying is potentially harmful to a project that we've spent the better part of a year (and more money than I care to think about) working on. I don't want to speak for everybody else, but the thing that bothers me the most about comments complaining about whatever band or how last year was better or whatever is that it just comes across as lack of appreciation for the amount of work we've put into making sure that we can have VIHC fest every summer. Naturally with so many bands booked there's going to be some that not everybody is into and that's fine. I'd just like it more if we could talk about the bands that you're excited to see instead of complaining about the ones you don't like.

I'm glad I haven't been perma banned yet, I want to be able to respond to this: I really wasn't talking about you and Warren specifically. Those posts were just a catalyst to get some things off my chest. I actually love seeing you guys because I know how much effort you put into coming out. I'm also stoked to see Jelly Boyz this Sunday.

This thread has turned into a hydra, but I'll try to sift through the points. My issue with what you said Willa (and those agreeing with your letter) is that there might be a half dozen Van people who view the VI scene in a dissenting way, but to generalize that Vancouver hardcore has this view of Victoria discounts the enthusiasm and support that a lot more Van people have shown for VIHC than not. You're upset that some people from here don't give the respect to your scene you feel it deserves but you simultaneously don't respect the support Van peeps have given Vic by painting us all with the same brush. As you state above, if you don't feel like everyone in Van is like this don't post an open letter to Van HC.

My opinion on this is it's a public discussion board and you guys are welcome to disagree with dwarren's posts but dwarren's still entitled to express an opinion you see as being negative. I understand that a lot of effort goes into the VIFest, but you shouldn't take negative opinions as pooping on your hard work because you can't expect to please everyone. I put a lot of effort into my bands, but if I see a negative comment online about my band I don't challenge the person's opinion because it can be disappointing that they don't like my band. I accept that everything I do won't be appreciated by everyone. To me, a person being able to speak freely and honestly is more important than occasionally taking an ego bruise because someone wants to say my band stinks on a messageboard.
