I never tell anyone they have to vote. The statement was more for myself I guess. If people don't want to vote for whatever reason, so be it. IF I even make it to the polls, I will vote. I guess in my viewpoint, my one 'insignificant' vote could potentially allow someone a seat.

Point being: I didn't mean to sound like everyone should vote and I feel awkward now that it came out that way.

I was serious about this, don't feel awkward. I wasn't suggesting you were saying I had to vote, I just thought it was a good quote. I actually agree with that statement, I just wouldn't apply it to voting.

Long story short, quit worrying so much.

I love the things that Willa says. It's like he sneaks into my brain and clarifys what I wish I had the hutzpah to say to people when they're all "YOU DON'T VOTE? BUT IMPORTANTZ!?"

I feel like the NDP is least likely to create social injustice fuckups like going to war and first world problems like allowing our internetz to be metered. so I usually vote NDP. if every disgruntled liberal/conservative hating person just voted NDP or green, wouldn't that be more likely to have a chance at steering things in a direction you're okay with, even if it's not exactly what you want? I am never like "everyone should vote" - I'm just curious. as far as I can tell, the high not-voting percentage only tells the country that you guys are lazy and uninterested, not that you care a huge amount and don't want to support the system you like. which just means more money thrown into cute bus ads of dudes decked out in american eagle with captions like "I VOTED! WILL U?"

all that being said, I don't really feel like my vote has ever really counted for much and that the gigantic glued-to-the-tv mass of a population is what controls the vote. at least we don't have it as bad as in the states where people are convinced that their democratic/republican vote is important. I'd rather be able to vote for a smaller party with steadily increasing support than not really have the option.

I think it's more likely this something that they repeat in the hopes of convincing themselves it's true and thus avoiding taking responsibility for the failures and excesses of previous generations. I mean, it's more or less common knowledge that Canadians as a whole aren't happy with any of the major parties and feel they're out of touch with ordinary Canadians, so it should only be a simple matter of connecting the dots to figure out why people, and especially young people who are traditionally more ideologically driven, aren't voting. Low voter turn out is the symptom and everybody knows it, but it doesn't make for good PR for politicians to openly state that most Canadians have lost faith in our politicians and process. When ever I hear somebody say "if you don't vote you can't complain" all I can hear is that status quo grasping at straws to claim legitimacy.

can an iphone playa get a hookup to my man wyclef - if i was president?

so... in the town of about 150,000~ where I live, we have a conservative mp and have for more than 30 years now. my parents happen to know our mp a little. my mom pretty much started the operation red nose campaign in BC and he's come out to volunteer before. he even thinks it's really cool that i'm so interested in green energy. i don't know the guy, but he seems okay... on the flipside, our liberal candidates are usually real turds. however, the wildcard came this morning when I saw a sign for a guy I went to high school with. he was openly gay in school and took a ton of shit for it. his parents kicked him out of their house and he had attempted suicide. he was also a mega-nice dude who was really smart and involved with all kinds of stuff outside of school. when i first met him he was really impressed at how political-minded i was (suburban high school anarchism rawwwr!) and we got along. i haven't seen him since i was 17 but turns out he's our NDP candidate. it's too bad. i don't think this town will ever be ready for queers in office, and he ain't svend robinson.

personally, i've always voted green. i too think it would be awesome to see a green in office. the amount of votes that they've gotten from the 2004 election onward is pretty outstanding growth, and I think it's come from more than just yippies and fake-liberal enviro faux-movement. that's pretty cool, even if it's largley inconsequential in other ways. it'd be nice to see some change of balancing and a real ruckus on the hill.

nonetheless, i have been quoted saying, "there's no such thing as liberals and conservatives... just pandering asswhipes."
Langley and it's surrounding areas is split into a few seats so which area do you vote in?

I know, I was more awkward that someone MAY interpret it that way, which is why I felt I ought to clarify.

Also, I always worry. It's my thing apparently.. hah?

http://www.mlpc.ca/MLPCcandidates.html here are there candidates. I was only joking though. Every time i see them somewhere giving out leaflets i always ask the same question: ''Do you guys condemn staline's model of the proletariat dictatorship, do you guys condemn the atrocities he did''. And everytime they can never answer the fucking question, they always find a way out and around. Sadly they have not learned from there history.

But for real, im voting NDP. I am from a long line of anarco-communists who in the face of corporate fascism have defected and opted to vote for the lesser evil. If the masses ever awake from there deep sleep, and that the government no longer hold much power in the face of a full out rebellion then i will burn my ballot but until then that strategy holds no worth.

peace... and death to conservatives.

I think the biggest problem that the ML party faces is the fact that it is more or less arguing against the writings of Marx and Lenin. They're trying to get YOU to vote them in to PARLIAMENT where change can happen at the top rather from a grass-roots movement built on the needs of all people.
