Re: Dear people who do shows in Victoria
How many shows have you booked, Alexis, much less with bands you don't like? I'm not trying to be a dick to you or anything, but the things your asking him to do are things that you could easily be doing yourself. Plus, the dude opened a store that sells music that wasn't really available on the island before he opened it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that he's pretty comfortable with his contribution.

also,
it's actually been tough to book shows in vic for quite awhile, damages are lucky you guys have the troyler connection. we've basically been down to a couple houses and a bunch of big overpriced halls for at least a couple years now... when i first started going to shows there were a ton of great options for affordable all-ages venues, i've definitely had to turn away a few bands i would really like to have helped out simply due to there being absolutely no feasible options, unfortunately.Andrew wrote:It's a bummer for you guys as well because you'll miss this rad band but also if it gets tough to book shows in Vic it becomes one more obstacle to bringing bands to your city. BC Ferries already does a good enough job discouraging bands to come to Vic, they don't need any more help.

Since you directed this at the plural "guys", I'm assuming you mean myself and Alexis. I don't care that you only book bands you like. My comment was about knowing you would not like Book Of Caverns so there's no point asking you if you can help them.wolfgang wrote:You guys make it sound like I'm an ass for only booking bands I like...why would I book bands I didn't like?

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.
Re: Dear people who do shows in Victoria
Content with my contribution? Too what? The "scene"? Truthfully, if I booked the bands I REALLY wanted to book in Victoria, no one would show up, and I'd lose money on every show. I book the bands that I like that nobody else in town will book, trying to book stuff that is under-represented here. Same goes for the store. I don't have the time to book bands I don't like fr the betterment of some ficticious "scene". I'm 36 years old with a mortgage and 1.93 kids...I booked my first show in the 80's, and have done a couple hundred since then...I've been selling punk records since 1994...I've done 4 different fanzines, 3 different radio shows on as many stations, 3 record labels...played in a dozen bands nobody gives a shit about. Am I content with my contribution to the scene? The only reason I do anything is because there is no scene for what I like...I'm lazy, if other people in town were doing stuff I liked, I wouldn't have to do anything.
Andrew...how do you know I wouldn't like Book Of Caverns?

Have you ever been to a show I've done? Ever been to my store? Talk about segregated...people in this town tend to support what they know/like.to help the scene be less segregated, general betterment of the island.

I have been to your store a couple times, one time I took my uncle there. one time you scowled at me the whole time i was there.

Of course I can't be 100% sure, but I'm willing to bet money on it.wolfgang wrote:Andrew...how do you know I wouldn't like Book Of Caverns?
I base it on your past comments about what bands and styles of music you're excited about/enjoy and what ones you don't care for. Book of Caverns sound like a late 90's emo band with smallbrownbike overtones. Not music you've ever shown any interest in on here. It isn't a criticism of you that the band likely isn't to your tastes.

That's awesome Willa. Thanks a lot man. I'll get you and Book in touch with each other.Hollow wrote:Hey, haven't been perma banned yet, just wanted to say that I can do this show at my house. One time I scowled at everybody the whole time I ever talk to anybody and for some reason people think I'm cranky.

I don't think you've ever been in the store while I was working. I know who you are and would remember seeing you...and I'm a pretty friendly guy. I have an employee that works at the store Mondays and Tuesdays...maybe it was him doing the scowling?

Re: Dear people who do shows in Victoria
I thought you were closed monday and tuesday. that's kind of awesome because those are myd ays off so they're the days I usually buy records. Also, we should organize punk rock play dates for our kids someday.

You're absolutely right...that kinda stuff makes stick sharp pencils into my ears and push really hard. I dodn't know I posted here enough for people to figure out what I liked and disliked.course I can't be 100% sure, but I'm willing to bet money on it.

Re: Dear people who do shows in Victoria
I actually really like certain kinds of metal...I just don't think punk and metal should mix...and I don't like grindcore and it's influence on metal. I listened to metal almost exclusively for like 3 years in the late 80's/early 90's...and I still buy and sell tons of old metal LP's.
