This was one of the best Victoria shows in awhile. Troyler house is pretty much the coolest venue currently at our disposal. All the bands slayed hard... White Ribs blew me completely away out of nowhere, Tyler and I drunkenly talked them into doing a split tape with SBB. For having not really played any shows ever they were mind-bogglingly tight, rad kids as well. Compound Terror are always great but they fucking delivered hard on this night, blasts sounded awesome Scott. I wasn't really expecting anything of Creeper but they delivered a pretty swift fist to the skull of everyone in that house, the energy in that tiny room for those guys was pretty unbelievable and served as a re-affirmation of why house shows are supreme. Looking immensely forward to that Damages show.

yeah, this show totally exceeded my expectations.

first of all, HUGE thanks to everyone who followed our rules on starting the show early, keeping inside or at least being mostly quiet while outside, and leaving after the last band. this shit is the reason the cops didn't get called. yet the energy didn't suffer at ALL for being such an early show.

also I'm stoked on almost everyone's willingness to contribute $5 (or more, in some cases) for creeper. I ended up getting them about $165, which is good because they only snuck one person on the ferry ride to victoria, which cost them $100 for that one direction. I also got white ribs $10 to help cover gas. I can't think of the last time we rented a venue and made $175 after rental/ad costs.

and seriously, about 35 people paid, there were 9 people in/with bands, probably another 10 or so who I forgot to ask or just didn't have money, so there were about 55 people at our house in total? this is an amazing turnout and much better than we ever see at bayanihan on weekdays. do people just love house shows that much more or something? how did we get that many people to come on a weekday?

this is one of the most fun shows I've been to in a while. white ribs blew me away. that band is REALLY tight, compositionally incredible, definitely one of my new favourite local-ish bands. compound terror drew a ton of kids, set up and took down fast, and had a ripping set. I didn't expect the energy and enthusiasm that came out of creeper. their set is the reason I love hardcore.

moving shit and cleaning up is always a bitch though.

I'm glad I went; I almost didn't, but then by chance my parents just happened to head to Vancouver... and it was definitely worth being yelled at for an hour after I got home. Creeper/White Ribs were amazing, and Compound Terror, though not my thing, were equally amazing.
