VIHC.net VAN ISLE HARDCORE BOARD

It became a rather inconvenient process for me to access the original page, edit html, reupload a new image (all via FTP) and such just because someone was doing another show. So I thought it was time I finally got around to something different.

At one of the VIHC meetings, we discussed a new direction for the page. Karla mentioned Wordpress and, since then, I've been thinking how great it would be so that people can post their own show listings so that they show up on the front page.

Now you can! If anyone can suggest any improvements, I'm all ears.

One thing that has been troubling me is the Van Isle / Mainland issue. More and more, people from the mainland are using VIHC to get the word out about their shows. It's not fair to say "No Vancouver shows" since a lot of us go to them and love them. But I think, for the purposes of this main page, it's probably best that we only refer to Vancouver Island shows and Van Isle bands playing in other cities.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite because I stuck Damages in the links section. But I think a band gets Van Isle status if they play here at least 6 times.

I'd appreciate it if anyone promoting upcoming shows tested it out. Try logging in, post a show listing or flyer, see how you like it. Make sure to categorize it as "show".

If we want to move to posting images, videos, rants, etc, I might be interested. What do you guys think?

I might customize it visually with a better VIHC banner. I might do the same to this message board, though I'd be scared to mess with it too much since we have so much custom code to fend off spambots / post youtube links / etc.

I dont really think this is an issue, but I do think just in terms of good promotion they put in the title heading the city its in should it not be in the Victoria area.

i like this new direction. maybe ill try some banners when im bored tonight. how big of a banner would you be wanting up there? would around 600x100 be fine?

couldnt figure out were the link were located, somebody should add whiteribs, golden axe, human demise, and deviated septums, to the list of bands.

Victims Choice is no longer a band, the others are good ideas. I do not know what the ideal banner size is since I haven't really poked around the code of that template.

Sorry the password is a riddle, that (common sense) seems to be the only way to get around spambots these days.

how do you edit the link i looked for a good 10 minutes and could find it any where.

well after searching the internet for answers ive found that the dashboard seems to be missing a ton of option, it should look more like this.

im feeling the banner should be of a local band, not an out of towner, and bubba has the best shots of Promises so why not

keith... that's good but vancouverislandhardcore.net is not a website. I know where to put it in now, looks like we have a height of 120ish pixels and a width of 600 should be appropriate.

still to do: assign logos for the admin and vihc users, maybe a custom page or two detailing things like venues in this town, how to get here, promoter info, etc.

ah, i getcha, well i think you still need to add more local bands to the list, right now you just have the most well known.

ha valid point. ill fix that, didnt even occur to me
