Re: 3D movies
I thinks its alright if the movie was actually shot in 3d, but most haven't been, they've been converted to 3d in post production which lowers the image quality.
plus its gotta be a good movie with a good story.
plus it is an annoying trend.
so my answer is yes sometimes maybe.

god grahammit!
I say YES. but only because that's one step closer to reviving the virtual reality trend of the 90s.
Virtual Boy 4 lyfe!

for serious, I have only really been impressed with the 3d effect in Avatar, not really anything else. but now that consumer 3d cameras are in production, we're on the way to holograms and convincing virtual reality worlds and shit.

These are the two point I flip flop between. I find the 3D trend annoying right now, but I'm interested in what this trend might lead to in the future.tylerp wrote:but now that consumer 3d cameras are in production, we're on the way to holograms and convincing virtual reality worlds and shit.

Re: 3D movies
Don't get me wrong, when they manufacture them I'm gonna have a holodeck, but I like 3d movies. I don't see the appeal whatsoever, and I like wearing the glasses.
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.

Re: 3D movies
I think it is a pretty cool idea but not usually executed very well. I have only seen a handful of the recent 3d movies and piranha was the best even though it is obviously a dumb movie.

Re: 3D movies
meh 3D movies just cater to the boring side of film. 3D is basically an excuse to have a flimsy plot/flat characters etc in the sake of some stupid gimmick.

Seeing Thor tonight at midnight in 3D. Normally I dislike 3D movies. Will report back my findings.

Re: 3D movies
3D has been big before, around the late 70's and early 80's. Back then, VHS (Betamax in the 70's) was cutting a wide swath into the film industries bottom line. They reacted by pumping money into gimmicks, 3D being the biggest and most prevalent. It didn't last, as VHS wasn't the death of the film industry as predicted. Something similar occurred with the advent of television in the 50's (anyone ever heard of Smell-o-Vision? No, really, that was a thing...).
Now a days, the internet and piracy are what have the film industry scrambling to fill seats. Yes, the 3D technology is infinitely better now than it was in the 80's, and yes there are more applications being thought of that weren't thought of before. But it's basically the same premise: "Holy shit, we have a big budget movie that isn't strong enough to stand on it's own. People will probably just pirate it instead of going to theaters. QUICK, MAKE IT 3D!!".
It's absolutely a gimmick, and absolutely won't last. Whenever I see 3D attached to a film, I feel fairly comfortable in assuming it's going to be a piece of shit. Avatar was a terrible movie. Toy Story 3 was fucking amazing but the 3D added nothing to the movie itself, which was great because of the writing. Tron Legacy was terrible. Clash of the Titans was terrible. That new Resident Evil movie was (SHOCKINGLY ENOUGH) terrible. 3D has never actually been utilized in a fashion that propels the movie it's added to forward. It's simply there so people can go "OOH, neat, Christian Bales hand just reached out toward me!". If he's spouting inane gibberish while doing so, the movie is still crap.
TL;DR: 3D has nothing to do with movies, and everything to do with profit.

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.
