Post by keith. »

i dont know a whole lot of it. i know 80% of it annoys me. i used to watch a decent amount in the 90s. stuff like ghost in the shell, armitage, ninja scroll, princess mononoke, akira are ones i can remember

I'm guessing you're into more of the action packed genres. If that's the case,
Death Note is always the standard for the genre.
Fullmetal Alchemist is really good as well.
I guess I'll say Evangelion as well.

Are you looking at expanding the genres or are you quite particular with what anime you watch? I can get down to the nitty gritty if needs be haha.

also noogz: can you suggest some where it's like some high school girls hanging out and sometimes they have pillow fights and explore what it means to grow up and other times they have little fights and stuff?

You mean slice of life anime? That's what I mostly watch haha. I'll give you a list:
A-Channel
Azumanga Daioh
Nichijou (currently airing)
Hanasaku Iroha (currently airing)
K-On!
Lucky Star
Minami-Ke (I think)
Saki
Shinryaku! Ika Musume
Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru
The iDOLM@STER
Working!!
Yuru Yuri (currently airing)

Other similar slice of life:
Black Rock Shooter
Air
Clannad
Final Approach
Fruits Basket
Genshiken
Gokinjo Monogatari
Hana Yori Dango (I've only seen the live action, it's a reverse harem)
Usagi Drop (currently airing)
Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu
Toradora!

Keep in mind, some of it is pretty ridiculous

Netflix is very limited in their anime. There is a ridiculous anime called Queen's Blade, nudity everywhere. Tried watching it for the content, it's pretty bad. Still might try to finish the series though.

Forgot about that one, I watch the first few episodes, thought it was great, never went back to it. There are so many variations to this so it's really interesting to watch I'm sure.
There's another setting for this called Umineko No Naku Koro Ni. I watched the first episodes, it looks pretty good.

battle angel alita - fucking awesome violent sci-fi awesomeness. first anime I ever saw.
grave of the fireflies - very fucking sad movies about post WW2 hardship in Japan
ping-pong club - juvenile funny series. haven't watched it in along time but 16 year old me thought it was great.
wings of honneamise - movie about fledgling space program, first launch into orbit. definitely centers on character development.
spirited away - this might be a gimme but I avoided it because of the hype but really loved it when I finally got around to seeing it.

Can only do so much with OVA I'm sure. I'm sure all it was, was to boost manga sales. Looks interesting, wonder if I'll ever find the manga.

Currently watching a series called Asobi Ni Iku Yo! It's about a guy coming into contact with a girl with cat ears and tails and claims to be an alien. There's sorta of a harem theme going on with three girls like one guy and all that. Hah, totally exposing myself way too much
