victoria jam spaces

Post by tylerp »

I'm just wondering if anyone has openings or leads on a jam space in Victoria.

Watcher is taking a brief hiatus while Kris is gone for a month then reforming with a new bassist. We normally jam at Kris' place but it feels a little weird since their neighbours do complain about noise and I can't store all my gear there. Sometimes we jam at the Troyler but it's a huge pain hauling everything into the living room, setting it all up, then having to take it down and stuff it back in storage again. I know this is no real excuse, but Nick lives in Langford and doesn't drive, I live downtown and don't drive, Kris lives way up on Wilkinson and doesn't own a car. So it'd be nice to not have to rely on heavy gear transportation all the time.

Are there any places being rented where you can just leave everything set up and come in on your day or two of the week? I know some bands have done this in the past and it's usually a simple issue of splitting the rent.

Not really interested in Lemon Tree since you gotta transport your equipment every time... nor Pro Jam Spaces, though they do have storage lockers, since I suspect that after-hours access to the storage lockers is limited (confirm/deny?)

Where are you guys jamming?

Someday I'm going to live in a sweet house with a basement that's been decked out as a recording/jam/show space lined with mattresses, plus another section with a sweet TV/video game room and my record collection and turntable. Someday. I might be 40 years old by then.

the best place i have rented is projams. A little pricy but you can rent gear, not bring a p.a and store your shit there, you just gotta set it up each time.

do they have after-hours access to the storage lockers? ie. if you suddenly had to play a show and it was 7:00pm on a sunday and you just wanted to roll up and load your gear into a car without having to call some dude to let you in, would that be possible?

yeah, when you rent a locker he usually gives you a key to the doors to get in whenever. just ask him(rick) about it when/if you call him.
