Re: CONVERGE IN SEATTLE DECEMBER 9th
THIS SHOW WAS THE TITS.
First time seeing Devotion live and they killed it. Very stoked they're getting more exposure.
Heiress was John Pettibone from Undertow/Himsa fame's new band. They were alright. Sorta slower jams. Dude is 40 now, blows me away.
Black Breath really impressed me this time, and I think I'll be getting way more into them. Absolutely killed it.
Narrows had a bit of technical bumps but overall I was singing along and thrashing about. I tried to shoot a vid on my phone, Dave Knudson came up and licked the lens. The save function DIDN'T work and I am forever sad.
Converge was Converge. They played a healthy amount of material and covered Wolverine Blues with Pettibone on vocals. Loved it.
FUN trip. Everyone let's get a HUGE crew next time!!

I just...really...don't have...words.
I finally got to see Converge. That is all I care about or ever will, until further notice.

El Corazon is cool. It was definitely cool to experience a venue run for and by the same kind of musicians and community members. It also has a "cool big-city underground" vibe.
Oh yeah, Black Breath's set was also fantastic. Too bad the place was packed (sold out) and I was stuck in the back for it, but it sounded great.
Meanwhile, No Heroes hardly registers and Jane Doe simply stands alone.
I was stoked they played almost all of Axe but for sure would have been happy to hear more of You Fail Me.
And of course their very last song was "Last Light". And of course all hell broke loose.

Axe to Fall is to me currently what You Fail Me was when it came out, which is to say, the best shit ever. (To speak all personally n' shit.)Andrew wrote:That your favorite Converge record?reece wrote: just need to see you fail me done all the way through!

You Fail Me is my favorite Converge record, though Petitioning The Empty Sky is big for me too because The Saddest Day and Dead blew my dome when I first heard them.
I'm surprised to hear YFM mentioned because it tends to be people's least fave Converge record and I'm always alone in my fandom of it while everyone else wets themselves over Jane Doe.

jane doe was a game changer. a nearly perfect record in all ways. you fail me while not completely sweet all the way through IMO is still super rad. the title track is one of the best songs ever. no heroes has a lot of sleepers that will get love over time. axe to fall is a monumentally great album.

Agreed, it's a great record, but I'm a sucker for the more stripped down, raw style of hc Converge played with on YFM. Bands like Kiss It Goodbye, Deadguy, the Swarm, etc. are favorites for me and YFM is the closest Converge ever got to that style of hardcore (imo).Crucified wrote:jane doe was a game changer.
I'd still like to do a band based around the sound of the Depeche Mode cover of "Clean" Converge did.
Re: CONVERGE IN SEATTLE DECEMBER 9th
you fail me is probably the most creative album they did...although axe to fall and the new single and split with DROPFUCKINGDEAD have some insane riffage.

I think that the problem a lot of people have with YFM is that it followed Jane Doe. Any album you make after such a (to quote Kevin) game-changer is not going to get the criticism it deserves. I honestly haven't listened to YFM since it came out, but I've been meaning to revisit it.
For me, it's all about the Poacher Diaries. Locust Reign continues to be one of my favorite songs. Jane Doe, of course, is mind-blowingly good. No Heroes is...just not good. It happens, these guys have been playing/recording for something like 20 years now. Not everything is going to be gold. Axe to Fall still makes me randomly street mosh. I'm not sure why. Other than it's fantastic.

Then you'll go from being lonely to wishing that everybody would just fuck off because their a bunch of fucking buzzkills going on about how 'you've got a problem" and they "just want to be their to help you". You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.

Agreed with Kevin.
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.
