Apparently they're playing in Vic for some radio. They contacted me to see if we could put on a show for em in Nanners, so I'm looking for a venue (looks like it might end up being in a barn, wooo). Apparently Damages sent em our way, and they asked if we have any other contacts on the island. Have they already asked you guys?

If I remember correctly, one of the dudes used to do Just Say No! records. If so, solid dude, backed hard. Otherwise, nah, don't know them.

You're thinking of Taylor, who isn't in GSTS. Taylor's new band is Burning Ghats.

The GSTS guys are nice dudes anytime I've talked to them. They played a few shows with Damages.

What day are they looking for a show for?

Their Myspace profile picture is of them eating at Tubby Dog, so they can't be half bad!

Good dogs! If you're in a band and play Calgary, set something up at Tubby Dog. I think all the shows there are free, but it works as a side show...and they gave us all the free hot dogs we could eat, and all the free beer we could drink!!! They never cut us off...

Victoria NEEDS a venue like this. Hot Dog joint that has all-ages shows and serves beer!

The only problem with that is that it's next to impossible to get a get a venue licensed and still have all ages shows. Liquor primary licences are hard enough to get in the first place, and as soon as you want have a 19+/AA you get so many liquor inspectors all up in your shit that you can't really do anything. If you have a food primary liscence there are less hoops to jump through interms of having 19+/AA shows, but then if kids start dancing you can shut down. Victoria city counsel hates fun.

That was it. Damn, sorry dude. No idea who they are, but I'm sure they're rad. If they're playing Troy's show, I'll back 'em.

Yeah...the way the Food primary liscenses work here is fucking ridiculous. Capacity equals number of seats, and nobody can stand with a fucking drink. Stooopid. This city is in the Dark Ages...it's like Footloose around here!!! Things have gotta change...why can't kids be aloowed to have fun AND businesses be allowed to profit from it???

I'm guessing it has alot to with 300 year old retiries refusing to admit that the city's dynamic is changing that it isn't just their city anymore.

Tubby Dog is one of the strangest businesses I've ever come across. An item on their menu is literally a hotdog topped with peanut butter, jam and captain crunch. And that's not even the most fucked up one. We're set on playing there the next time we're in Calgary.

Have any of you played at the New Black Center in Calgary yet?

I saw a show there, pretty good venue I guess, I'd compare it to the Victoria Events Center but less shitty sounding and maybe not quite as big. I'd much rather play in a shitty basement or a place like Tubby Dog, but that's just me.

The difference is the New Black is owned by a couple guys just trying to support the local scene (and good dudes to boot), so whatever support they can be shown is important. The city isn't happy with them existing, but they did the place legit. Legitimate all ages venues of their nature are pretty rare, I think it's a place worth trying to keep alive.

New Black's liscence was p[ulled last week, and they probably won't be doing shows there in the future. That place charged $500 / night rental to anyone who wasn't their friends anyway...joke.

I've never heard of an all ages show there being charged $500. I think that's if regular folks wanna book the place for a party or some crap.

I heard they were having an issue with one of their neighbors. Hopefully they move to another location instead of folding.

I think you're missing the point, those archaic and restrictive laws still exist so the old bastards in power can let you know that it very much is still their city.
