the first show i ever went to was DOA in merville when i was 13, haha
for me the best shows i've been to this year were:
murder city devils!
bouncing souls & youth brigade
red elvises
nomeansno
anchor & run with the hunted
weakerthans & constantines
the slackers
worst:
the queers
the misfits
yes i paid 32 bucks to see jerry only play the worst, most masturbatory set ever, and then stick around to work the crowd like a pro wrestler. should've been smart and snuck in like keith. or stayed home.

Best:
John Fogerty at Save On Foods. Best show of the year hands down.
Creatures at VIHC fest
Gza at Sugar
Creeper at Troyler House
Obituary and Goatwhore at Sugar
Iron Lung and Extortion at Vic Events Centre
Witch Hunt at Bayanihan
Poser Disposer at Camas
Withdrawal at Camas.
I really liked Youth Brigade's set, but I left before the Bouncing Souls and the other two bands that opened bored the hell out of me. St. Alvia reminded me of every punk band I started in highschool that never went anywhere and Off With Their Heads sounded like a less inspired version of Leatherface.
I can't really think of any shows that were especially bad.
The first ever concert I went to was Weird Al when I was 8. My mom took me. When I was 11 my dad took me to see BB King and Dr. John. As I mentioned before my first punk show was Gob and the Black Halos.

not sure what my first show was. I think my first show that doesn't count as some sort of public concert or anything like that was... lythic blue, black tie social, pushing up daisies, ten too late, mad hatters, and maybe twiceborn?
best of 2009... I'd have to say kidcrash and loma prieta at bayanihan. I know I put it on and blah blah but I really like those bands and the attitudes of the guys in kidcrash really stuck with me. other than that? maybe julie doiron at lucky. or creeper at the troyler house.

Rule #1- Don't pay $20+ to go see a band.
Rule #2 - Don't go see bands that were good 20 to 30 years ago on their current reunion/in their current incarnation
Rule #3 - Don't pay $20+ to go see that were good 20 to 30 years ago on their current reunion/in their current incarnation
You gott know shit like that is gonna suuuuck!
First show...

Best shows this year...
- Vapid/Juvie/Twin Crystals at Logan's

- Sharp Ends/Endangered Ape/Bash Bros at Logan's

I like how everybody in the picture has the same awkward smile, as if they're all saying "You're embaressing yourself, but we can't tell you that because you'd be devestated."

i paid $40 to see murder city devils and don't regret it at all!
tyler - mad hatters...as in the north island punk band?!
zach - youth brigade was easily better than the bouncing souls but they always put on a good show.

i think my first show was snfu and destined for nothing (jeff and dan from acres of lions highschool pop punk band LOOLL) at the dave thompson cultural centre in nelson. i was in grade nine and i was stoked.
best shows:
-the ripperz at the zoo in winnipeg. there was probably two hundred people singing along to every single song, it was in the middle of a tour we had been doing with all metalcore bands so it was a really nice breath of fresh air. maybe the most amazing show ive ever been to.
-living with lions, grave life, party at the moontower and broadway calls at the media club in vancouver. annual bro show, shit was off the hook there was pile ups on stage and people hitting the roof.
-apparatus theory cd release at bayanihan centre. the most packed that place has ever been probably. the cops came to break it up so apparatus theory played a converge cover. one of the funnest shows i played with bk too.
-house show at devlin and aidan(or whoever lived there)s place with maurice, the raccoons and vegan holocaust. classic house show, cops came, loads of beers and fun.
-BLINK 182! leo almost cried. and i puked blood that night. in a good way.
-slam dunk at dab last saturday. those dudes slay.
worst shows:
MAPPING THE ESCAPE! i dont want to rag on them too hard because they werent bad dudes but holy shit they had easily over a hundred thou in gear, in ear monitors, light show, played to a click, smoke machine, FOUR HOUR SOUND CHECK!, rehearsed stage moves and talk between songs, auto tuned vocals, triggered drums, toured in a fuckin handy dart with a massive trailer and refused to open shows, the two of which i was present for consisted of about 15 people including bands IF THAT. the most un inspiring shit ever. i guess i just ragged pretty hard.

First Show: Pearl Jam at GM Place, Vancouver. it was pretty cool, but i didn't like all the drunk/stoned people AHAHA.
Best Shows of Year: i can't remember most of them but i'll try
- Bogus Tokus at Lucky for Pisslandia (the only show i went to at that festival but i only payed a pack of smokes for the ticket so it wasn't even a big deal). man they blew my god damn mind.
- The Ripperz at The Zoo in Winnipeg. Like Ian said, it was fucking insane, i've never seen a better live show.
- Our last show at our house. I don't even know how many people maybe 150 + cops there the entire set. We came close to getting evicted afterwards, but it was worth it.
- Slam Dunk at Dab. they bring the rukus.
- Have Heart/Shipwreck/Cruel Hand/Gravemaker in Kelowna. It was rules + great road trip.
- 2nd annual broshow at Media Club in Vancouver (LWL, Grave Life). Good dudes, fun times.
- Kid Crash and that other band at Bayanihan. I don't listen to either bands but they were inspiring.
i'm sure there are lots more that i loved but i can't remember...
worst show:
-the last Ghosts show because there were about 30 people watching and it was a major bummer because that band ruled. it really had nothing to do with how they played, it was just bummersville.

First concert was Radiohead at Thunderbird Stadium in 2003, blew my mind. First local all-ages show would've had to have been Wayne Powerman at Little Fernwood. As for shows in 2009... hmm let's see...
Massgrave, Whatshame, Hard Charger & Fear of Tomorrow at The Bayanihan... for some reason nobody noticed all the posters I went around putting up for this, nobody came out and I lost tons of money, but it was worth it.
Irong Lung & Extortion at the events center, needless to say. Iron Lung > everything
Xbrainiax, War Hero, SBB, Osk, Mass Grave at the APC Center in Vancouver
Kylie Minoise at Ron's House
Dichotomy, Vivid Sekt & Spectres at The Bayanihan
Loma Prieta & The Kidcrash at the Bayanihan
Contagium at The Bayanihan
Osk, War Hero, SBB, Swallow Your Tongue, Hominid at the S.A.D. House in Edmonton
Osk, War Hero, SBB, Rehashed, Mechanical Separation at some bar in Saskatoon (seriously)
SBB, Swallow Your Tongue, Brain Fever, Hamas at some house in Calgary
Arsonfest in Winnipeg
Lab Rat, Joyce Collingwood, Colombian Necktie, Shooting Spree at the Gravel Pit in Squamish
Creeper, Compound Terror, White Ribs at Troyler house
Probably others I can't remember

First show as a kid that my parents took me too: Moody Blues.
First show I went to of my own accord:
Black Tie Social, Madd Hatters, Ten Too Late, Pushing Up Daisies, Twiceborn, Lythic Blue @ The Gary Oak Room.
Show got shut down early some girl/guy called for an ambulence or something from alcohol poisoning.
Best of 09
Hardcore Fest V (Creatures, Set Foot, others)
Rainfest in Tacoma (Cold World, Comadre, Graf Orlock, Dangers, Sojourner)
Lion of Judah in Vancouver
Azeda Booth
i know i put on a few shows too they were all pretty awesome.
I avoided a lot of bad shows this year.
so can't really think of what they would be

Every show I go to is worse than the one before. Except for when I saw Dark Cloud.

Dark Cloud were good, but I felt that the woodwinds were a bit ostentatious.

man, I was at this and it was totally a bummer. nobody was there and nobody was into it except like 5 people. that band is amazing and deserved a stadium full of people or something.

My first show was some Rotten Fiends show at who knows where when I was 13 or so. Definitely don't remember much of it, but I think Cyborg Justice and Thrash Madonnna played?

This.
And I have to say I am incredibly jealous that you went to Obituary.
Also, Children of Bodom & Municipal Waste when they opened for Lamb of God, and that show in August that Archon Legion headlined.
trappedinside wrote:Massgrave, Whatshame, Hard Charger & Fear of Tomorrow at The Bayanihan... for some reason nobody noticed all the posters I went around putting up for this, nobody came out and I lost tons of money, but it was worth it.
I was planning on going to this, but my mother had other ideas for me. I definintely noticed the posters though!
Worst was probably this Fall In Archaea show at the Bayanihan I went to because I had nothing else to do that night.
