The n-bomb isn't going to be okay on this forum, ever. I'm not particularly fond of the f-bomb, or using "gay" as an insult. I will start by editing posts, if it continues you'll get a PM you and give you a warning, and finally I'll end by banning. Just gonna give a heads up because I want people to know where I'm coming from. Feel free to bitch and moan about this as much as possible. I'll still do it.

have people started dropping n bombs on here or is this pre emptive? i really hope its pre emptive because i like to think of pretty well everyone involved with vihc as better than spouting off homophobic and racist rhetoric.
maybe there needs to be a stickied thread of basic forum rules people need to abide by

No ones done it seriously, but there have been some "ironic" moments. I in no way shape or form think that the people who did this were racist or homophobic, I just want them to know that we're trying to create something that's open to everyone, and that means not using that sort of language.

Context, good sir. Context. I never use the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion, and I never drop the f-bomb. Yeah, I make gay jokes, but they're in the context of being on the inside of that culture. It's a little different.

Yeah. I know there's gonna be some double standards, I won't even try and pretend there won't be. I'm just gonna do my best to not let it get out of hand, and I think this is one way of doing that.

Okay, so just a to clear some things up, the reason these rules are in place, in addition to such terms being generally abhorant, it's the madate of the VIHC society to create open and inclusive spaces, including internet message boards. It would be really horrible to have all our hard work and everything we've accopmlished, not just as a society but as a community in general, come undone because somebody wanted to be ironic and edgy. I think this definetly warrents further discussion and serves as a great base for certain rules and protocol but I also don't think that this should be the be all and end all. As a community I think we do an excellent job of policing ourselves, but I also think it can't hurt to keep all our bases covered. So yeah, good idea, has few kinks to work out.

There's a huge difference between you guys giving me shit for being Jewish, for example, and someone blatantly using a racist/homophobic term. Sorry for coming across like a dick, that was definitely not what I meant to do. Don't worry, you guys do not have to walk on eggshells around here, if you do something that is considered out of line, I'll do my best to keep it a private matter from now on. However, if you do something out of line, I will be responding to it, and that's really all I wanted to say with this.
