Saw a mini-series that Les Stroud did about building a self-contained house off the grid for his family to live on. It was up in the north of Ontario, completely isolated. They basically put in everything they would need so they could live without using anything from society, and then hooked up an internet connection.


Go fig.

the last episode was touching. I love this show, and in related news, bear gryllis is a fucking worthless hack.

The fan war between those two shows is nothing less than fucking hilarious.

SurvivorMan offers me a purist survival experience where a man on his own is tested to see what feats he can achieve and still remain in relative safety (due to his expertise, and by safety I only mean still living).
Man Vs. Wild offers me a situation where a person with military training - along with a crew and support team - has the opportunity to take infinitely more extreme risks than Stroud ever could, and illustrate a different sort of survival experience.

Sure the pretense and controversy behind how much assistance Grylls was getting was annoying, but if you can't look at and appreciate both shows objectively then, well, I'm laughing.
