Punch are totally killer but I'm also somewhat surprised at all the praise being heaped on. Lycanthropy are a better female fronted powerviolence band in my worthless opinion.

into punch cause i was trying to book them here once around when the 7" came out...

then saw they were playing australia so just hyping to get jordan to see them.
i like punch. maybe will check out lycanthropy. when i am in the mood for some pv..

I'll be honest, I'm into Punch because Val from Loma Prieta is in the band. I don't think they're amazing but they're pretty good and that's reason enough for me to dabble into this style for a change of pace. based on this link (http://www.myspace.com/lycanthrophy) - I think I prefer Punch. the guitar work in Punch is way more of that hardcore groove kind of thing that's a little closer to stuff I like, Lycanthropy does more of that metal/crust jumping all over the fretboard and heavy trudging that bores me a little. I guess I mean that the whole harmonic framework of Punch is closer to bands I already like so I can enjoy it more. not that the bands need to be compared head to head and my own opinion is just as worthless.

those tracks aren't really the best representation of lycanthropy, their split with gride has more breakdowns and tempo changes and the like (amazing split by the way), but they are definitely more grindcore than punch so i understand where you mofos are coming from. i didn't realize one of the members of loma prieta was in it, I bought the punch 7'' off them when they played here (dude tried to charge Jeff $7 for their 7'' and did not succeed, when i came around and asked he wisely lowered his price to $6). i really like that record actually, i guess their LP didn't resonate with me to quite the same extent although it's also very solid.
