Going to New York on Thursday.

Post by LAxPB »

Anyone ever been?

Other than going to a Rangers vs. Devils on the 6th and then taking the train up to Montreal on the 12th, my friend and I are pretty much going into this trip completely blind. Any suggestions on places worth checking out would be appreciated.

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.

11 hours each way my good man. Costs about 80 bucks, round trip. Never traveled by train, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Just walk around Manhattan! There is so much to see.

Check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's by donation!
I would advice against going to the top of the Empire State Building unless it's something you really want to do. It costs $20 just to use the elevator.
Being an improv dork, I would say go to either the Magnet Theatre or UCB. both are good, but http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/ seems to have more to offer than JUST improv.
Central Park is HUGE and really cool to check out. There's always music and stuff going down.
If you want to see some Broadway for (not really, but better than full price) cheap, go to the middle of the Broadway area and there is this thing called the Broadwaybox. It is a box. You basically bid for tickets that come up on a screen. If you don't have much else to do, it can be fun.
Back to the first point, check out tons of galleries and museums.
if you go to Chinatown, you can walk over one block west and be in Little Italy.

Those were most of my highlights I remember.

Should I hide the milk?

Find somewhere to eat other than an Applebees. Haha I flew into their on a trip to Connecticut. I wasn't old enough to eat at a pub back then. I ate in an Applebee's, slept in the cheapest hotel that looked safe, and hit the road in the morning. I totally botched NYC.

Just finished up the New York part of the trip. Went and did all the tourist type shit and ate a lot of unreal pizza. Ended up staying in rougher part of Queens, which really added to the experience. Anyone who hasn't gone, I would suggest it.

Now its up to Montreal in a few hours! Horray for Death Threat, TUI and genuine poutine.
