All genres are part of a musical equilibrium, without every single nuance of sound you wouldn't have another. If you like any genre, that's kinda cheap. I will say though, that there are artists within select genres that I dislike, but wouldn't write off every group falling under it's banner. For example, I "like" Steve Aoki, but I love the Prodigy, not all electronic music is bad, just some people cheapening it. To sit around and be like "THE GENRE OF _____ SUCKS UGHHG I TURN IT OFF", I can't be bothered to be that negative, it's almost like a chore at that point.

i fully support this thread. nobodys saying a genre sucks its just the ones that personally rub you the wrong way.

i like that 70's radio rock blues, like eric clapton and stevie ray vaughan. i like some other rock/blues stuff like springsteen and zeppelin. but that particular (mississippi? dad rock?) sound just reminds me of 55 year old men in leather jackets air guitaring like its their sixteenth birthday.

for the record im not writing my masters thesis on this.

Prog-Rock, most mopey indie-rock stuff, "short hair" metal, metal influenced hardcore, 90's minor label pop-punk, polished R'n'B, punk-rock played live where all the band members look bored, power-pop where the band members all look like Rod Stewart, any blank-abilly band that plays through marshall/mesa amps and double bass drumming...

I have never heard an indie-rock band I've liked.

Ska-I can appreciate first wave and 2-tone, but newer ska is just fucking wacky and has almost nothing to do with what the genre used to be about. It's like shit for kids who want to be punk rock but too scared to rebel against mom and dad.

In high school, I always used to refer to ska as "music for band geeks, by band geeks". And by that, I mean the NERDS who take band as a class. I cannot recall meeting a single person at Oak Bay who liked ska who was not some greasy overachieving know-it-all fuck.

Unfortunately, I side with Gibas - that granola eating, dope smoking, peace monger - on this issue.

except i still maintain Gibas is my least enjoyed genre; It's just so unoriginal and passive i find no artistic value in its whole or parts.
