So fish keeps talking about all these pop punk bands,
and she showed me one I didn't mind (Cant remember the name)

But isn't that kind of a Oxymoron.. calling something 'pop punk'

if it's punk AND popular, doesn't that make it pop punk?
Perhaps it's a stylistic thing,. Punkrock power chords, fast, and loud mixed with harmonies and progressions.

My beef with the term pop-punk is that in the 90's anything wimpy, slick, minor label "punk" band was labelled pop-punk...and it tainted the term. Pop doesn't mean popular anymore...Pop became a genre in the 50's and as long as it's catchy as fuck and full of hooks, I'm Ok with people calling something pop. The Ramones were a pop-punk band...The Pointed Sticks, The Modernettes, Dickies, Descendents (at times), Buzzcocks, Undertones, Boys, etc, etc were all early pop-punk bands. Seems most of the good ones were pulling their influences from the 50's and 60's...later on the decent pop-punk bands were just aping the earlier pp-punk bands. There is a whole culture of bands who ape the ramones/ screeching weasel/queers...all those bands are better than the 90's definition of pop-punk.

I don't know anything about real emo or fake emo...but I know that if it ain't got hooks...it ain't pop. Playing wussy punk doesn't mean you're playing pop-punk...it just means you're not smart enough to write catchy fucking song!

You know how I feel about pop punk.

I feel the same way as Sarah. My favourite genre is pop punk. I love this genre way too much (jk, there's never too much love for pop punk.)

Dear Andy: REFORM RACETRAITOR.

Also, Pop is a genre. Punk is a genre. Mixing Pop and Punk makes Pop-Punk.

And 90's pop-punk is my favorite pop-punk. Jawbreaker, Dude Ranch-era Blink, Alkaline Trio, the list goes on. So good. SO GOOD.

Being punk is a pop-culture movement one could argue that all punk is pop-punk by default, so there.

I'm always stoked when the band down the hall from our practice space covers Bob and brutally murders the trumpet solo EVERY TIME.
