Their new album just came out and upon first listening it's alright. I really enjoyed the single "Explode". Some of the songs are pretty different. It's not as good as the the Self-titled, but I didn't really expect it to be. It runs kind of shorter though, I did expect a little longer. The production on my speakers kinda lacks but that is because my speakers suck. Overall it's a pretty decent effort from them, although I feel it will turn some people off who were already fans.

I may pick this up from a distro the next time I order records. I wasn't all that amped to jump on the preorder bandwagon for this release.

I want to hear this, but to be honest I stopped listening after Walking Disease. I did think explode was a good song though.

This is a hype band. They have a load of fans that couldn't point out hardcore if it hit them in the dick. For every hardcore kid raging out to "Dig" there's some dickbag in a bright pink Trash Talk tank top at a dance party. That's just life.
However, in a baffling turn of events, they're a DAMN GOOD hype band. They, for the most part, lived up to said hype. Their self-titled is a rager, Plagues is pretty damn good, and when I listen to "Destroy" off of Walking Disease, I begin planning murder. I love this band, hype or no.
Hating something just because everyone loves it is just as stupid as loving something because everyone loves it. You're still doing something based on other people's opinions.

I don't dislike them because other people like them. I dislike them because there is absolutely nothing about them I find interesting. I've given them more than a fair amount of chances, and I have yet to listen to anything of their's that makes me want to keep listening when I could listen to Radical Attack instead.

That's cool. There are lots of bands I feel that whay about. People just seem to get more riled up when I talk about not liking Trash Talk though, and I like seeing people get riled up over stupid things that don't matter like which hardcore bands I do or don't like.
Also, upon reading the first paragraph of your post Willa, I couldn't help but be reminded of the infamous Tegan and Sarah black flag shirt fiasco. Not really trying start an argument here, so feel free to clarify if need be, but it strikes me as kind of funny how upset you got over them (allegedly) co-opting and turning hardcore into a committed to be bought and sold, but when Trash Talk actually makes into a commodity to be bought and sold (and resold on e-bay when that particular colour of neon is no longer available) that's life.

im oblivious to any hype of hardcore bands
i dont read b9 or any other news sites or shit like that.
im happy in the dark of whats in and whats out in the hxc world.
what bands i like tend to be NW bands because theyre the ones who i have a chance of seeing. im pretty obvlious to a lot of the bigger name acts right now. but TT rule my balls, hard.

I dunno, I've more or less been listening to the same hand full of bands for the past 5 or 6 years. I read b9 for threads about shitting your pants and Samoan dudes literally fucking the fetus out of some chicks womb. I ignore most of the threads about bands because they all boil down to half the board saying whatever band is popular that week rules and the other half saying the suck.

Considering Trash Talk are apparently an independent band too, a lot more people should be giving them props for properly promoting themselves without a real "label" backing them. So what if they sell a shit load of stuff on ebay? The money goes right back to them putting out their own self-released records, or hiring Steve Albini to work with them. I'd like to actually see more bands do that. Trash Talk are actually doing what a lot of hardcore bands struggle to do nowadays: be successful.

They had some labels early on to really build the hype. Used that hype as to move forward as an independent band and do what they want.
They go on diverse tours that aren't standard hardcore tours. Expose a ton of kids to their music. This band rules. From some people i hear they are kind of sketchy dudes. but then from friends who have booked them saying they are not. so whatever

I don't really care what they do with their merch. It's their stuff to do what they want with it. I'm just curious about what Willa thinks about it because I think it's fair to say there are some similarities. It's just a tangent I went off on. I don't have a problem with Trash Talk existing or anything they're doing. They're adults and can do what they want. I simply think they're mediocre at best and over hyped. You probably think the same thing about a lot of bands I like. It's not a big deal.

Some clarification is definitely necessary. You're absolutely correct in that there are a ton of similarities to the Tegan and Sara incident. Here's where they converge/diverge for me.
1. I like that Trash Talk does that. I should have stated that. I think it's patently ridiculous. It doesn't mean I don't think their music rules (and I do) but they really need to stop being the Wal-Mart of hardcore.
2. Tegan and Sara are not a hardcore band, so I get a little offended when they do something that seems to rip off hardcore (accept in this case where it just wasn't the case whatsoever). So, yeah, a little hypocritical for sure, but I'm willing to accept a lot more bullshit from people when it comes to this if they've put in their dues. It's not a good argument, but it's how I feel.
Also, I wasn't directing that statement about hating bands specifically at you, more at the world in general. I just think it's so stupid to like a band (or love them) simply because everyone else loves them (or hates them).
