please recommend me some good inie rock
"indie rock" isn't a genre that i haven;t really explored too much into. i know the artists that i like and haven't ventured too far out of what i know. i also don't feel i have the patience to research and find what else i might like, as i feel there would be an incredible amount of shit that i would have to sift through in order to find it. does anybody have any recommendations for some good indie bands? i'm on a real can-con trip right now, jamming the hell out of The Inbreds and North of America, and i really like the darker sounding stuff. thanks

Low - "Things We Lost in the Fire", very downtempo depressing and dark.

Re: please recommend me some good inie rock
sweet you actually are listening to more North of America. I remember you asking about them when we were playing it here before the show.carlsincharge wrote:"indie rock" isn't a genre that i haven;t really explored too much into. i know the artists that i like and haven't ventured too far out of what i know. i also don't feel i have the patience to research and find what else i might like, as i feel there would be an incredible amount of shit that i would have to sift through in order to find it. does anybody have any recommendations for some good indie bands? i'm on a real can-con trip right now, jamming the hell out of The Inbreds and North of America, and i really like the darker sounding stuff. thanks
Prob won't name many good "darker" sounding stuff...
Anyways some good can-con indie rock:
Dog Day
dd/mm/yyyy,
Women
i am really into Frog Eyes and Sunset Rubdown, Blackout Beach, etc (Basically any Mercer/Krug project)
more okay can-con: Besnard Lakes (only into them at times... ha)
Other goodies that i enjoy that isn't cancon
No Age
Make Believe
Ghosts & Vodka
The Pharmacy
Deerhunter (also other side projects like Lotus Plaza)
Man Man
Panda Bear
Pre
Xiu Xiu
Meet Me In St. Louis ("post-hardcore"/indie from the UK. Ordered their record with some other stuff awhile back. cool)
American League (cap'n jazz influence band from the NW. they posted their demo on nwhardcore awhile ago)
The Post-Marked Stamps collection / full comp version has some bands on it that are similar esque to North of America...
Also if you are into some of them / kinsella related projects the new comp Joan Of Arc Presents: Don't Mind Control has some cool tracks.
Or of course there is all those other more emo and emo influenced bands, that you probably already know about, like North of America from the 90s. ie Braid, cap'n jazz, Indian Summer, Mineral, early Jimmy Eat World, Drive Like Jehu, American Football, Ethel Meserve, A Minor Forest, Waxwing, Sinaloa, A Day in Black & White's last album (other albums are sick too), and since i said that Life at these Speeds ha.
Edit:Life at these Speeds last album and Sinaloa would be good listens for North of America fans imo.
The Got To Get Got has Mark M. from North of America but they are not dark or broody

I dunno why anybody would want to listen to boring music like "indie rock" when you're got 50 years of garage, punk, pop, hardcore, etc...to listen to. I'd rather listen to fun, high energy miusic, than boring, whiney and pretentious indie pap, anyday. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GOOD INDIE ROCK...
Shit...I don;t even know what "indie rock" is...but from what I can tell from years of hearing the term...it's a pretty bland genre by definition.

Re: please recommend me some good inie rock
Yeah it is a shitty definition. Some people that are really into this "bland" music feel the same way about punk etc.wolfgang wrote:I dunno why anybody would want to listen to boring music like "indie rock" when you're got 50 years of garage, punk, pop, hardcore, etc...to listen to. It really goes to whoever is into it. I find i can agree with you as a lot of it that i hear at the station isn't that astounding and is pretty bland. I do enjoy some and there are quite a few that draw influences from cool genres and just happen to be labeled "indie rock" as the hipsters / indie kids get really into them.

ya that kind of came across as 'why listen to music you like when you can listen to music i like'.Andrew wrote:Sounding a bit the music snob here dude.wolfgang wrote:I dunno why anybody would want to listen to boring music like "indie rock" when you're got 50 years of garage, punk, pop, hardcore, etc...to listen to. Well, why would you listen to music that you like when you could listen to music he likes? Obviously his tastes are the be all and end all.

Listen to Troy, the man knows what he's talking about.
You should check out Titus Andronicus. They just released a new album, The Monitor, that is as good as their debut The Airing Of Grievances. Both fucking rule.
I always recommend Pavement, the first "indie" band I ever liked.
Black Lips and End of a Year are both really good, they have indie rock elements but are not straight forward indie rock.

thanks for the recommendations everyone. Troy, you wouldn't happen to have the mp3's for The Sepultura, This is Dance Floor Numerology, or These Songs are Cursed by North Of America, would you?
