I think that most likely scenario in that case would be that since we've already been in contact with them they already knew what we could offer and that it wouldn't meet what they wanted/needed and nobody else in town wanted to/could do the show. Or their booking agent/label or whatever just told them when and where the show was and that was the end of the exchange. Or Timbre offered them a show here before anybody else had a chance to. Either way I'm not going to take it personally. They haven't been a part of the DIY touring circuit for some time, nor have they pretended to be. I care more about good shows coming to town than the politics behind them and if at the end of that day all I can say is that a band I love is coming to the town I live in then I think that's pretty awesome.dalamar501 wrote:ZACH ATTACK wrote:I can pretty much promise you that nobody was sitting around saying "Hey! i agree with tyler. itll be a great stage to possibly promote VIHC and find a new kid or 2
I agree that this will be a prime opportunity to promote VIHC, and to possibly get more kids interested in other shows. I'm very excited for that possibility.
But make no mistake. This is a slap in the face. You do not go to a promoter to put on a show in another city. This is pretty fucking insulting. I'm gonna go to this show, I'm gonna have a wicked fucking time, and I'm gonna tell anyone in that band exactly how I feel about this. If they're the ones who decided to do this, then I'm gonna tell them they fucked up (HA). If it was their booking agent, I'm gonna let them know he's an asshole.
I just want to reiterate that I'm gonna have a great time at this show. I'm already excited to see them. I'm just not going to sit there and allow someone insult us this way and not let them know how I feel. I refuse to be a doormat.
it is listed on live vic
as well as on timbre promotions.
If it is a package it is fucked up's tour package. IT would have been to at least get asked to do the show since both us and cfuv have tried to contact / have contacted their booking agent so they know we book in this town rather than using an out of town booking agency. That is the onyl thing that bothers me really is that it isn't even a local promotion company

Oh, I'm not mad at the band. This is reminiscent of the Rocky Votolato conversation. I get that they were almost assuredly told this is where they're playing by the booking agent. I'm just of the opinion that if I tell them why I'm upset, they'll at least consider what's up before they book tours.
To reiterate, totally stoked for this show, not mad at the band, just pissed about the situation/context. This shit happens, I get it. I'm just not gonna sit there and not say something when I'm upset. They can't fix a problem if they're not aware of it.

I get this feeling from toronto and montreal bands that the west coast of canada doesnt exist. It wasnt until well into FU's success that they ever came to Vancouver even. It is the same with no warning they never came this way until they were on tour with Sum 41. Aside from a taste for blood which I only saw because of the day of mourning connection and that my band was playing the show. I think liferuiner came once and acted like douchebags but I didnt see that cause I was in the hospital dying of a swollen windpipe. I think fudds other band in this defiance played that night but really the shows listed are my only seeings of toronto hardcore in vancouver.

Creeper are from the t dot! and a band's vibe and attitude doesn't get any better than that. they contacted me out of the blue on vivalavinyl.

True. But I think this is the exception. Honestly, Pat is kinda right. We get more east coast American bands out this way than we do east coast Canadian bands. I think it has something to do with the fact that you can tour JUST Ontario and do really really well for yourself. Kinda a bummer.

Honestly, touring the East is the way to go. I don't blame any band that sees that. It's simple geography.

yea its tough touring the west of canada, i mean from manitoba to bc you have, 8 major cities. That's A LOT of road to cover. where as if youre going across the states, and then up to BC, you have a lot more cities in the same amount of road. add to the fact gas is cheaper in the states, its often just too expensive for east coast CDN bands to come out this way.
bummer.

I never thought of that before, to be honest. I guess it kind of makes sense. Western Canada is still pretty untamed.
Stupid America with their stupid globalization getting stupid paved roads and stupid cities.

Also:
Someone should email Timbre and beg and beg to open the show. I'd be VERY surprised if this show didnt sell out...it'd be awesome to a local band on the bill. There is a chance that because theres a vancouver date too, they might be touring with someone, but even still, it'd be great to see.
at least try!

There are maybe like 4 places in Ontario where kids would go to a hardcore show (Hamilton, Toronto, London maybe, Ottawa) unless you're playing shitty mosh metal. As was pointed out earlier, Canada's geography makes touring out west really difficult, and likewise, we didn't get many bands from out here playing in Ontario when I was living there.Hollow wrote:tylerp wrote:Creeper are from the t dot! and a band's vibe and attitude doesn't get any better than that. they contacted me out of the blue on vivalavinyl.

Re: Fucked Up
I think that the big difference between this and the Rocky V thing is that nobody is operating under the pretence of this having anything remotely to do with DIY ethics. They're band that can play anywhere on planet earth, they're fully aware of that, so that's how they operate. Feel free to tell them if you're upset, but I still think it's a silly thing to get upset about. I mean, you've said many times that they aren't a hardcore band anymore, so why apply hardcore ethics to them?Hollow wrote:ZACH ATTACK wrote:I can pretty much promise you that nobody was sitting around saying "Hey! Re: Fucked Up
This has nothing to do with hardcore ethics. Never said it did. I find it insulting that they went with an out of town promoter to do a show in Vic. If they had gone with Atomique, I'd have been okay with that. I was only comparing it to Rocky V. because it was a situation of "Not mad at the band, mad at the situation". The situations themselves were completely different.ZACH ATTACK wrote:I think that the big difference between this and the Rocky V thing is that nobody is operating under the pretence of this having anything remotely to do with DIY ethics. wait, why the fuck does it matter if it's an out-of-town promoter? and since when is atomique legit? this is really confusing, also i don't care to encourage the direction of this thread, i just don't see the logic in that point...
