old victoria punk footage
this guy has a lot of cool old footage from the 90s punk scene in victoria. ive been going through the videos and its cool to see old venues/house shows (most torn down now it seem) a few of them even praising the courtney and nanaimo and duncan scenes for having great shows. even the same problems being discussed that we have now, like lack of AA shows, basement shows getting broken up. no venues ect.
so weird

You need to talk to more old Victoria dudes, Keith, hahaha.
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.

Well - If you can indulge one really old fuck for a sec.....The summer of '92 was the greatest fucking summer of all time - at least three houses (Bonehead's on Caledonia, the Hellhouse on Hillside, and the Humphouse on Quadra) had at least a couple gigs every week starting that May and well into the fall. There were other houses too, but they weren't hoppping crazy like the core three were. And I'm talking every single week - FUCKING SHITLOADS of bands, mainly local, and it soon became apparent that Victoria was just fucking CRAWLING with bands. The next summer was almost as non-stop gig partying, but not quite. Several out of town bands every week.......it was just........after a while, it felt like there was almost TOO much going on - a total overload. Some folks were like - "ok - this is almost gettin ridiculous here". Imagine complaining about too many gigs!!! That was '92. I almost shudder at my alcohol consumption back then - one of those summers I made sure I had at least a six pack a day. (ew?) Sometimes it got a little hairy playing at Bonehead's because of the electrical grounding - if my mouth got too close to the mic I'd get electrocuted.
Mildy eloctrocuted, but still electrocuted nonetheless.
I always remebered the Vespa toilet.
Constantly reminding myself to reformat old MPA, OTTG, and Soy from VHS but laziness always prevails.

nutty coincidence you happen to mention that particular gig considering it was the only hump gig I ever played in, so, needless to say, this meant a meandering, aimless jam for about twenty minutes, at the ht0 shop on broad street, when it first opened ('94?). It was neat playing drums right next to the front left window and looking out at all the tourists walking by, freaked out by the sludgy, growling noise cranking outside at them, and those long-haired freaks JP and Mike being....well....long-haired freaks. For some crazy reason Mike ended up borrowing the guitar from the guy who ran ht0 in order to play the gig. Too bad buddy didn't know Mike, and the gig came to an end when Mike started dragging buddy's guitar along the floor, breaking the patchcord input off from the guitar. A goofy, predictable brou-haha ensued, culminating in a characteristic Mike Wolfe "fuck this", as we all just mosey'ed away, the video showing some of the argument going out into the street and into the parking-lot.Corrence wrote:I know Ron has some archived vhs footage of (i believe) Hump playing in store somewhere downtown, totally fucking wreckless.
I don't think the ht0 guy had any more gigs after that.
oh wait - right - old punk footage
