No problem with hoboes, just junkies, aside from the ones who steal from my work. I know of about half a dozen places where anyone could go, any day, to get some food, and these fucking junkies/bums come in and steal chocolate bars. The others are pretty cool, though.

Last night Josh and I are walking back from watching the fights at element, some hobo starts yelling at these people "I'm just trying to sell my art you fucking jews! God damn fucking jews!" It was hilarious, because he was crazy.

I cannot relate to their lifestyle due to my own privileges. I don't have a broken home, difficult addictions, "mental illness", behavioral problems, a history of violence, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, partial education, or dangerous peers. so I know these things combine with a system of government and economy that produces hobos. but the vast difference in our lives just makes it so I'm one of many who don't really do anything to help and just don't care enough to try. instead I occupy myself with selfish purchases and my own needs because I'm much more concerned about my own welfare than these people who suffer more than me. and when they ask for change I throw out a sup and keep walkin'. unless it's that dude that buys PSP games and looks straight out of the big lebowski. I love that guy.

isn't there a difinitve difference between bums and hobos? I thought bums was derogatory for homeless, and a hobo was a traveler. which makes it hard, cause that would be fucking horrible to be out and sleeping on the street right now, but if you're hitchhiking about and forgot to plan your trip around the seasons and are stuck here, and are trying to scrounge up some beer money,than I got nothin for you bro.
but still, distinct difference! my sister volunteers at Our Place, and says its a tonne of old grannies with nothing saved up.

i like it when i hear people yell at homeless people to get jobs having never walked a mile in their shoes, people who know nothing about what these people have been through, the abuse they have endured, the addiction they try to cope with, the underlying mental health issues etc. I have a hard enough time finding jobs myself, cant begin to imagine how dauntinh that is to someone who cant shower or clean up at all and cant even be rached by phone or anything.

that being said I am aware that sume homeless people may just be lazy but that is definatley not the norm

Hunter I couldn't agree more with you.

I also like when people use the "he/she will just buy drugs with it".
1: That's not always true
2: So fucking what. One way or another, they are going to get drugs. It's a fucking addiction and they have to face it alone. I'd rather have him/her get money from me then have to result to prostitution, stealing, robbing etc. And don't give me the "you're just fueling their addiction" shit. Some will use the money for food, some will buy drugs, some will throw it off a bridge and yell that it's the devils gold. I could care less, at least I tried.

puttin things in perspective.

i rarely give out my change but i'm usually pretty broke from my own crippling addictions to chippies and faxe strong. travelling punx usually don't view 'home bums' with very much respect. when I crashed the war memorial steps at maryland deathfest with a bunch of punks some homeless dude tried to charge us 2 dollars a head to sleep there, "one time fee." He was promptly met with "we'll tear your fucking head off" and we were left alone after that. Nevertheless we got wasted with bums in the morning, they are really the only people drinking at 7am.
