not everyone conforms to the same definition of hardcore so despite how lame you think it might be to be drinking at an all ages show it doesn't mean you don't care about hardcore music.
Yeah man I love seeing All Ages hardcore.. But man I gotta get me drink on inside the venue or else it's like man why you trying to take my freedom bro.?? What you mean the thing i "Love" is going away b/c I couldn't help myself from drinkin. Man the people don't get me dude it's b/c they aren't in with the scene.

Fuck I respect everyones right to drink,do drugs everything. But you don't need to do it at a all ages show no matter the genre. Nuff said

I don't think that is quite what he meant.. he was more along the lines of saying that if someone is drinking alchahol at an all ages show they are ruining the chance of that venue being rented again, therefore not caring about it. its something that we are constantly dealing with in hardcore and even punk and pop punk, any type of all ages show really. if people are willing to take the chance of destroying an atosphere that people enjoy and work really hard for then thats a shitty mindset to have.

I think you missed the point here. I wasn't at the show so i'm not defending myself in my all ages drinking crusade. i'm simply stating that to say that you should question "wether or not you actually care about hardcore" is kind of a narrow viewpoint because hardcore music isn't defined by one thing.

A lot of people who occasionally go to shows don't care about hardcore. No more so than they do going to the movies or the park. It's something fun to do now and then but if they can't do it any more then it's not a big deal. That's why those of us who do care have to be vigilant about preserving the venues and goodwill we do have.

Hardcore=unity, a community. Drinking causing us to lose venues=not hardcore. /end of argument before this gets moved to The dorm forum

This is an excellent point. Also note, that Victoria DEFINITELY wouldn't and I doubt Vancouver would be able to support an all ages hardcore scene. It's why people who put on shows in Victoria tend to call people out for not going to shows, because there's so few people going already. Without the casual "something to go do" crowd, you wouldn't be able to support the cost of renting venues themselves.

CC: I missed them because I was getting amazing vegan food from Loving Hut. Since when do shows start on time? Guess it's my fault for being late but I am sure I will get to see them soon.

Damages: As always, thanks for the cover! You guys rule and it makes my night singing along to Six Pack. Great set as expected. I could watch them every weekend for months and not get at all bored. Glad to see lots of poeple inside watching them.

Cirlces: Dave Mac's hockey hair rules. I've seen them a few times and this was probably one of my favorite sets I've seen.

Not Sorry: THE MOTHER FUCKING STRAIGHT EDGE. Solid set. As Willa and I have talked about. They play youth crew, but it's definitly not fit to a template. They're one of the best bands around right now playing this type of style. Minor Threat cover, fuck yes.

Keep It Clear: I am sorry to anyone I hit during the Judge cover. If it makes you feel better my hand is bruised and still hurts. Vancouver hardcore keeping it real (and clear).

In Stride: This band should have been bigger. Such a fun set. Last time I saw them play casa was their "return" show. Amazing band, amazing venue.

highlights: Yelling Dumb and Dumber quotes with hunter, backpack mosh, seeing tons of my vic and van friends in one room, the lights going off at random times. North West hardcore is fucking alive.

It doesn't matter what your "definition of hardcore" is. If you drink at an all ages venue, it will get shut down. If there are no venues, there is no hardcore scene. So, what he said makes sense. If you can't be bothered to walk 5minutes so that shows can continue, I am sorry but YOU DON'T CARE.

Shiiiiiiit that was me/Keith. Profound apologies, I thought that going across the street and around the corner would be far enough away. It generally is in Vic, but obviously Vancouver is a different city, so different rules. If this is something that has actually caused problems with the venue, please let me know and I'll contact them and let them know you guys had nothing to do with it and that I'm just a jerk.

Fuck. This has happened to me as a promoter, and it always sucks. Again, I'm very very sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen. I definitely don't want to see the Casa shut down cuz of my stupidity.

Also, to add my two cents, I agree and disagree with this comment. If you enjoy drinking, and are of age, I see no reason why you shouldn't go ahead and have a few whether or not the show is all-ages. The question, for me at least, is adulthood. Are you adult enough to be allowed to drink? That is, will you drink in/near the venue? Will you get so losered you throw up/have to be carried out/break something/all of the above? Then fuck you, you don't get to drink. If you're adult, drink responsibly, don't do it near the venue, and are willing to take the heat if the cops catch you, then I am more than happy to not give a fuck. Personally, I really enjoy getting nicely buzzed before a show. It's not a necessity, and I can (and have/will) gone to shows and done nothing. But if it's an option I have, I'll generally take it. I try my best to go far enough away to not get the promoter in trouble (apparently failing miserably this time around. Ugh.) and know what my limit is and when to stop. That's really all any promoter can ask for.

Also, I don't think that SewnFlesh was defending drinking IN the venue or anything else that shuts down all agers, but rather that "hardcore" isn't necessarily one specific definition (i.e. straightedge, youth crew, Clevo, tough guy, or whatever you're into) but rather a large defining concept encompassing a wide range of people with differing opinions, politics, and beliefs. We can't simply say "YOU CAN'T DO THIS" because it's somewhat against a specific ethical concept. We can say "YOU CAN'T DO THIS" because it endangers our way of life, but if someone wants to go somewhere that won't bother anyone else and drink, they have that right, all ager or not.

Please add "in my opinion" to this entire rant.

actually, lets look at the trickle down effect. if you feel drinking at an all ages unlisenced then clearly you have no regard for the future of that venue being able to do hardcore shows. Why is this all ages space so important? because its the last affordable all ages space in the city. What happens when we lose these spaces. we have to move to non all ages spaces thus alienating underage people and we cant forget that hardcore is a YOUTH CULTURE!

in other words dont shit where you eat. if you dont like my definition of hardcore then with all due respect please go fuck yourself.

He probably does mean it, but he hasn't reached 25 yet and realized that there's more to life than defending the mythical beast in the forest that is his "scene".

Get out of bed and let's play NHL 11 before I go to school.

This thread's now about NHL 11.

Shit rules!
