Re: Regarding Rifflandia
I just don't get how you can have a fest called "Rifflandia" when there's hardly a band on the entire thing that really knows a thing or two about fuckin' riffs, maaaann.

I wasn't attacking anyone, simply saying why I'm angry at Atomique/Rifflandia. And sorry I get upset when people attack my friends. I'll remember that from now on.

Okay, so being new here, I was reading this board and thinking like "how bad could this festival really be?" Turns out one should always trust the wisdom of hardcore message boards. For $75 I wandered around to a bunch of different venue catching little snippets of shows I didn't care about, couldn't get a fucking drink anywhere (a point overlooked by this largely straight-edge group!) and went through rigorous IDing and line waiting everywhere. We were turned away from Chali 2na, the Dodos ended up being boring, DOA was really poorly attended and Gord Downie didn't play old Tragically Hip songs. I missed Wooden Sky 'cause it was in a church, where you had to sit in a peu, quiet and sober. Every other band was boring, self-important indie rock or bleep-blip DJ.

Did you get a chance to catch Aesop Rock? I was wondering how that show was going to go...justin wrote:Okay, so being new here, I was reading this board and thinking like "how bad could this festival really be?" Re: Regarding Rifflandia
I'm kind of pissed that I didn't see Aesop or Lee or Chad, but not pissed enough to be actually bummed... I got a wrist band for playing, played, left to go to an art show, went home and listened to aesop on my computer (while he was playing probably), and then didn't go to any 'Riff' shows all weekend. The ramp show was boss and the 5050 party was pretty drunk and regretful but great!

The ramp freelandia show RULED. Way more than I thought it would. Slam Dunk are an amazing band. Up the dunks!
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.

Yes, shocking that Jordan doesnt like an indie rock band. Apparently the Pope is Catholic, too. I had no idea.ian wrote:Jordan f. wrote:heard this show was a good time (footsies last show?) but I really don't get the hype around Slam Dunk.Tambro wrote:The ramp freelandia show RULED. i'm not really into slam dunk either but caitlin's cool and i'm sure her bandmates are as well and i can see how they would be a fun live band if that stuff is your bag. also i don't think we've seen the last of footsies but that's just a guess.

Re: Regarding Rifflandia
I do like some indie bands (depending on how you want to use that term). I am not saying I like Slam Dunk. I just don't see them being better then mediocre.

Re: Regarding Rifflandia
granted i haven't checked out the lineup yet, but from what i've read so far RL doesn't seem to impressive, and the owner is legit. he gave me a wire pin for free and introduced me to nobunny, and directed me to free karaoke (i wasn't able to participate but the act itself gets a shittin' tonne of props)Jordan f. wrote:I didn't read any of this thread but....

Re: Regarding Rifflandia
i talked to a guy at work about the fest cause he went
basically he shrugged his shoulders and went "ehhh"
hes the typical bro man's bro through and through. college kid who loves big festivals and such, basically made for this weekend. he said there werent many line problems but he was bored at almost every show and it just wasnt worth his 75 in the end

Re: Regarding Rifflandia
Jordan not getting the hype behind Dunk is like me not getting the hype around 95% of hardcore bands. Different values, that's all... I like them and I think they write some really great tunes. Also they're really fun live. Def favourite local band. I also loved Ghosts.
Separate topic, for those few Ghosts fans (troy, tyler, jodi), Bradley is playing the Nirvana tribute show as his solo project on Saturday night. Should be interesting.
