Shows on the north end of the Island?

Post by Andrew »

Hey, does anyone here have any contacts for places to play on the island besides Victoria and Nanaimo?

Back in the day Courtnay and Comox had some sweet shows. If you know anyone up there booking that'd be great.

first time i left victoria to play a show (and one of the funnest shows i've ever played) was in Merville (about 20 minutes into the middle of nowhere outside Courtenay) at this hall they have out in the middle of a bunch of farmland, the promoter was some mohawked kid who had never put on a show before, absolutely no idea what became of him but I'd love to play up there again one day.

I played comox last year and it was bunk. almost every show is a fail there. honestly not worth it...

try for port alberni (the academy) if anything else on the island. that place is hard to get but crazy if you can.

You'd think that since Comox is a pile of shit, people would be crawling to see a band from out of town do anything. I would have thought they'd brought you offerings so their farms would not wither away.

the only thing good about comox and courtenay, shows wise, is not playing there.

We played for like 15 kids and the highlight was a 12 year old telling us we were "definitely moshable" which was obviously hilarious. and I've played a million shitty shows for 15 kids, but seriously, if you don't have to, don't try.

I'm trying to get a show for Damages (and possibly Vacant State or Lush Vegetation) on Friday, Feb. 19th somewhere on the island besides Victoria because we're trying to play Vic on the 20th.

White Ribs are looking in Nanaimo for that date but seem to be having no luck finding a venue. :(

Yeah, sorry I didn't reply Andrew, just got your message. Been looking around, but the only venue we can see maybe getting right now is this old theatre, and it would be kind of unfitting for this kind of show. I'm hoping super hard that we get some who's cool with putting on a show at their house, but it's not looking good as of now. Sorry, bro.
And yeah, who IS opening for you guys in vic? We'd love to play if there aren't already bands.

Would definitely like to keep the idea/hunt for hc shows on the north end of the island open for the future. If anyone hears any new peeps doing shows in Nanaimo/Comox/Courtnay/wherever please post them.

Kris and Richard both are trying to get a venue willing to let them put on shows in Nanaimo. They also said they're gonna try and get a house for the summer, so that might be an option too. Things are actually looking up out there.

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.
