this thread got really awesome.
Monk is actually an original class from first edition. Not a very good class, but it was fun to play in first edition.

So there's also a 4th edition of D+D? How is it different from 3rd edition?

4th edition is more streamlined. It is like an MMO.
Made to seem more fun i guess.
As instead of just saying you "attack" something with a simple attack every move you make is an ability of some sort
i have never played.
Mikey has.

Yeah it is true tyler that 3rd they added a ton more "base" classes. I saw with 2.5 that there were still a ton of subclasses which well pretty much became actual classes in 3rd i didn't have a problem like that. You could still think of these 11 as being divided between 4 categories. Why not?
Yes they did rewrite pretty much the book you grew up with that is all.

Sorry Tyler, but you literally just explained why 2nd edition (while holding a special place in my heart as the edition I played all through high school) sucked. It was WAY too intense, incredibly hard for beginning players to pick up, and pretty much only fun for obsessive nerds with a penchant for mathematics. I enjoyed my time in AD&D, but when 3.5 came out I got WAY more into it, because it was more about streamlining gameplay, enjoying the storytelling, and gave WAY more freedom to the GM and players to mold the world(s) the way they wanted too. Way too many rules in 2nd edition.

Also, lets get a game going this week, soon. Reading break will actually give me a chance to read through my books and remember all the rules and such. Anyone in?

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.

I've played 4th, and you know what? It is all about freedom and I like it. It makes you need to be creative, and roleplay more. Instead of having "Skill: Profession Farmer: +13" you just are a farmer. You are because your story says so, and the DM can decide if you get a monthly wage or something. That is what attracts me to 4th edition, freedom to roleplay and custom my story however I see fit. D&D to me, is about story telling. Something I enjoy immensely whether telling or listening.

I am way too broke, so I haven't been able to pick up the 4th ed. books yet. Do they have a conversion table in there for the 3.5 books? I'd rather not have to buy the Fiend Folio again. Shit's expensive.

I know absolutely nothing about D&D but let's see if we can get as many people as possible to dress up as these characters and come to the show. How awesome would it be to have goblins, elves and wizards rockin out!!

Hah, a D+D costume party show would be hella fun. Consider it for this summer's plans Troyler.
