With having two posters for one event

I can see why sometimes my posters/tylers may seem too weird and they have to make a more "punk" version but seriously this time we tried to have one that we thought both sides would like but still

or people saying on facebook how they like "this one 50 times " more or something...
i just don't get it...

but yeah i see no harm in having a 2nd and also people having different tastes in art etc.
Most of the time i find those posters really i don't know shitty and hard to read or really not visually pleasing.

but every other time usually like whatever.

Black Ships poster is another example they postered the one they made at black raven etc rather than the one i had made.

yeah i don't really see the problem either...
just really saying how i don't i am closed minded and don't get how those other designs look good really... ha

the powersliding poster sucked in my opinion.. i don't know... just didn't look good. I guess any advertising is good but it would be better if the advertising for some of my past events looked professional or looked liked i as a promoter cared about my event and wanted people to come out.

BASICALLY when it comes to show posters i am a big jerk and think a bunch of posters suck and am wanting to rant about my opinion when people make 2nd versions of my poster. Even though i have no real problem with it i just don't get it.

That being said T. Akis just makes posters for every show because he enjoys doing so and has nothing better to do with his time... I like his posters, I don't think he means any offense to you guys or anything. I think Mike actually did the other poster for the Black Ships show and despite its simplicity I liked it way better and would be more inclined to attend a show with that poster than one with a fucking cartoon bear on it, but that's just me.

Sorry you feel that way man, but wouldn't you prefer to be told that in person, as opposed to online somewhere? I understand that you liked the poster and I'm sure other people did too, but I honestly felt that it was more suited for a junior's dance at the teen centre, and if I just took a glance at it on a pole downtown, I would assume that and not look twice. Sure the poster I made was not digitalized or time consuming and as basic as it could be, but to me that describes hardcore punk music alot better....and a guy doing a backside powerslide with a leather jacket IS going to get people to take a look,even if they just think it's ridiculous. Either way, that was almost a year and a half ago, so it doesn't really matter at this point.

I also don't think you should have to try and look "professional" on your poster when you're putting on house shows... if anything, it should give you license to do the opposite?

I like both posters and want to put up both around town. I don't really see how having different versions of flyers for the same show is bad thing. If anything it just reflects how many people care about and want to participate in VIHC.

Also, I'm not really comfortable using pedobear to advertise all ages shows.

The pedobear poster made me laugh, but the rule of thumb everyone should have is "if it makes Willa laugh, don't do it".

I see no problem with multiple posters by multiple people for the same show. Advertising is advertising. If someone hears about the show from a "professional" looking poster, or one that's a little more scuzzy, I could care less. Hell, I'll pay a homeless guy to yell about the show on a street corner if it'll get kids to come.

Plus, I like Akis' posters. I also like Pantella's posters.

I get the impression the issue for Troy isn't that a second poster is getting made, or how it looks so much as it's his show and it'd be courteous to let him know work is being done on the show before going ahead and doing whatever and assuming it's good with Troy. I think dude just wants a little respect for the work he does. Fair feeling in my opinion.

I think its stupid that a poster needs to look punk or whatever. a show is a show is a show, I glance at posters on almost every pole i see and scan for names I reconize. to write a show off because it has a goofy poster is stupid. when i first saw the pedo bear poster online I was pumped, same with the jeep brah one. those got my attention faster then a shitty DIY looking one. also keep in mind the posters shouldnt so much be for us as for other people. we all know that these shows are happening and have the means to find out when/where. posters going up on poles in theory are to attract other people who would not otherwise know that the show is going on. and if thats not the purpose of postering/handing out flyers then I'm afraid show posters are a waste of paper

I'm just emulating some of my favourite posters. I like a lot of the ones I see on gigposters and I like playing around with silkscreen-style imagery. I still think the black ships one is hilarious but I like making these shows seem like they're fun. that wolf is crying! my idea for this one was "oh, I'll make a cleaned-up crust poster"

that other one = cut and paste punk as fuck, "fuck you" to design aesthetics and readability, kind of like skateboarding through a grocery store and knocking down cans and shit in a badass way

I have no idea what never never never again, toxic, or 11 12 mean. there's no separation between what's a band and what isn't. and there's no date. but it probably took a lot more time to make than mine and it's more in line with typical punk posters.

it's all cool. some think his all look the same and some think mine are too uncool. I'm more into mine than his obviously but hey, 90% of the posters I've made have been because nobody else stepped up and did them - either for my shows, troy's shows, or a couple others. lots of people have opinions on these and say they can do better but rarely do they step up to make one in a timely manner. it's cool that tyler does these, it'd just be better if he did them early on instead of as a reactionary second poster every time. because at least that could save me the work of not having to make one in the first place. even though I do like doing it.

I actually dig your aesthetic. It makes me think of the posters in bigger hardcore scenes, specifically San Diego. I like Akis' posters a shitload. His aesthetic is seriously wicked. I think that poster he made should have a date. I think both posters should go up. I think that Mila Kunis makes me feel funny when she wears tiny shorts. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

I do agree some more co-ordination might be in order. Maybe we can have a poster thread that's stickied? I dunno, just a thought.
