this was really really fun. mad props to you two for putting it on and to john for lending me and protecting his amp during the set. its a bummer about all the negs but i think as long as you dont have any more beat kids reunion shows at your house it wont get quite so crazy again. also thanks to everyone for successfully crowd surfing me for an entire shared arms song, if theres any foot prints or whisky on your ceiling its my bad i felt like fucking spiderman.

Re: Video From Last night
Tyler is right to be pissed off, everybody is else to right to say it was an awesome show. I don't like the idea of invite only shows and I'd feel pretty lame playing one and I think it's probably a better idea to not have shows for bands with crazy huge followings of kids who have reputation for not being able to handle themselves in the public (Sorry guys, I love Beat Kids, everyone in beat kids in legit, but lets be real about the crowd they attract). It's not my house though so nothing I say about it matters. One day if I have my own house it will be the most reckless shit ever but until then everybody else has to suck it up and deal.

Into it. Also, after talking to you about this, I have to agree that invite only shows are a bad idea.
To be fair, that show WAS epic and way fun, and I raged out just as much as anyone. I just happen to agree that it's probably a bad idea to have something that huge again.

This is also exactly why interested parties should get into setting up an interdependent all ages venue in victoria.....

Re: Video From Last night
Given that the fest is less than a week away, it will be after the fest no matter what. But what I'm getting at is that this in everybody's interest who like going to shows and it doesn't necessarily have to be a VIHC society deal. Any bunch of randoms could organize themselves and work on opening a venue. It's a lot of hardwork, and that sucks, but we all know it needs to happen.... What I guess I'm trying to say is that if you like going to shows, do something to make sure you can keep going to shows.

Re: Video From Last night
Little Fernwood stopped doing shows because there were some really rowdy ones that caused quite a bit of mess and pissed off the neighbors.
Big Fernwood stopped doing shows because after one of them some peeps were cut with razors by a stupid little girl with a chip on her shoulder backed by who I'm sure she thought were big tough dudes. Who then got the living shit beat out of them by the same kids that got cut. It's kinda funny when you think about it (Note: not funny at all)

What was actually funny is how the courts handled those pieces of shit that came and decided to cut my friends. They were pretty much walking the streets in no time. I hope that girl and all of those dudes who jumped my friends O.D. . I couldn't be more serious about that.
Re: Video From Last night
What was the cutting/beating over?
That's really lame.
I'm sure that happening got sensationalized in the Vic community. So unlikely a return to using it could happen I'm guessing?

It was just random kids on coke.
I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.
Re: Video From Last night
I could see a venue such as Dab or the 50/50 or even Camas, but most other venues are usually no-fun or two expensive and almost always a headache. I guess i just like the aesthetic of a smaller, more diy venue... Also, I wish I had a house for house shows because I would def have them if i was into the bands or whatever. What about that other house that had the basement show with SBB and Nomad? Seriously, 50/50 is the best venue. Someone needs to rent a giant studio like that or Dab.

Re: Video From Last night
What about instead of people putting money into renting a show space on a monthly basis you rent a house with a basement of a size suitable to hosting shows in a location conducive to it (ie. no neighbors that'll complain)?
Granted this would be a more expensive home to rent, but I'm wondering if it'd be cheaper than renting a house/apartment plus a venue (ie. someone, like Tyler and Troy, could live in the house for the same rent they pay now, and the shows could pay for the extra rent cost for having the larger house)? Would this be do-able in the Vic rental market?

Re: Video From Last night
hmm...I honestly don't know. Maybe? I know that the Society is interested in opening a venue, and I think that might work. I'd love to have a cooperative venue much like Gilman.

Re: Video From Last night
That's the type of shit that I'm all about.
From the experience of putting on shows and festivals that I have, I know that it takes a large group of people (because there will always be a certain amount of people who just don't feel like putting in some effort). A large group has its downside (democracy takes a while, a group does need to shape the direction). A good read is 924 Gilman. It gets into the details and just how shitty and awesome it can be to be a part of something larger (like Jesus, amirite?).
Many hands make light work.
Be inspired and work to it.
