i don't know who you are, so it wasn't some sort of stab against you. what i'm saying is, if you are passionate enough to want to play shows, start saving up. it might take you a year but getting a used amp/guitar that is good enough for shows is not unattainable. I maintain my stance that if you are playing shows, maybe the money you spend on beer or whatever you spend your "extra" money on should go in a jar for an amp instead of whatever else you're spending it on. i spent the first 8 years of my guitar "career" playing our of random combo amps that i could afford and spent a lot of time mowing lawns and delivering papers and taking back bottles and every little thing i could do to afford something just a little better. maybe my priorities are different.officespace wrote:I wasn't referring to me not having any money really but I don't at all it's just the way he said it in that if you can't afford gear you shouldn't be a band. Yo, young dudes:
It's not easy trying to put things together at your age, but remember that a lot of other people are a lot older than you and have had a lot longer to work at their craft. Things don't just happen overnight... I know I've spent probably at least a year's worth of pay on equipment, and sometimes it's just what you have to do. In your defense I know it's not that easy - wages have stayed the same for years for young kids, while the cost of everything just keeps going up. You don't have to tell me about it, I have a "real job" and I've been making the same wage since 2006...
I definitely lucked into some solid gear by the time I was 17, and things are different now. When I was young there was no Craigslist with a pile of used gear moving through every week. Although admittedly, Craigslist in Vancouver is kinda lacking at times for gear.
All For The Best can borrow from my mountain of gear any time, and even if you want - I have a pretty sweet old Marshall head that I'd sell to you guys for a reasonable price. I was going to throw it on Craigslist because I need money for tour really bad, but I'd rather it go to a good home. It's been to basements, halls, and crappy clubs in almost every corner of North America, and was even played by such minor celebrities (some much more competent axe wielders than myself) as: Zach from Shook Ones//Black Breath, Al Brown, and many others... and it's never let me down. holla at me if any of y'all want it.

EBMM Stingray
Gallien-Krueger 1001 RBII
Gallien-Krueger RBH 4x10
It's my dream setup, essentially, excepting I'd rather be playing an Ampeg or Traynor (people don't give this company enough respect) 8x10. I just don't want to move it around (no, I'm not buying your 8x10s)
The only other thing that I'd consider buying is the markbass stuff. I don't have a ton of familiarity with it, but I've only seen great reviews and every time I've heard markbass stuff it's sounded AWESOME.

I play bass. I play guitar. I do both poorly. What's up.

I borrowed a 1001RB II this week and have practiced with it a couple times. I'm really digging it. Love how present and fast it is. It takes distortion pedals really well too. Very cool amp, I'm really tempted.Tambro wrote: Gallien-Krueger 1001 RBII

i've gotten heavy into eden bass gear lately. I was using a wt400 for awhile and it is a massive sound amp about the size of two stack hardcover books. insane.Tambro wrote:EBMM Stingray

Love Eden cabs. Their 410xlt cab is one of my faves. Very loud, rich tone.Crucified wrote:i've gotten heavy into eden bass gear lately.

Dropping a penny in the wayback machine to revive this thread and say I got a new P-Bass recently that I'm loving. It's from a company from Seattle called Regenerate Guitar Works. Just awesome feeling neck (I got a jazz bass profile). Got to compare it to a '63 Fender Jazz at their shop and dug the Regenerate bass more.
Anyone else get any new gear lately?

Re: Gear thread cont'd
I bought a Fender Jazz bass, the Geddy Lee edition. I fucking LOVE how it plays. Best bass I've ever owned.
Re: Gear thread cont'd
those are great basses, play nice and sound rad. Can't go wrong, other than only 4 strings.grind/bro wrote:I bought a Fender Jazz bass, the Geddy Lee edition. I fucking LOVE how it plays. Best bass I've ever owned.
I got a custom short scale piccolo bass made by one of the guys that works under carl thompson. It's pretty awesome. Only 4 strings again though.

My setup sounds soooo good. Even in shitty big Fernwood, I thought it sounded awesome. Just sayin'.

Yeah I watched that NE vid from the radio station and noticed you were playing a Geddy and wondered if it was yours. Glad you're stoked on it.grind/bro wrote:I bought a Fender Jazz bass, the Geddy Lee edition. I fucking LOVE how it plays. Best bass I've ever owned.
Really like the Geddy Lee jazz too. If they made them lefty I'd definitely own one. Smallest neck Fender makes (actually a hair smaller than a normal Fender jazz bass).

4 strings is all you need.

Rad, got a pic?Crucified wrote: I got a custom short scale piccolo bass made by one of the guys that works under carl thompson.
I've always wanted to have a piccolo. A tiny Stanley Clark fanboy somewhere deep within me craves a piccolo bass.

Correction, 4 strings is all you need. i prefer to have more at my disposal.

Exactly, which is why you were incorrect to infer 4 strings is a shortcoming of the Geddy Lee jazz.Crucified wrote:Andrew wrote:Crucified wrote: Can't go wrong, other than only 4 strings.![]()

Correction, 4 strings is all you need.

I've owned 5 and 6 string basses but I don't get enough use from either the low B or high C and the extra strings cause my playing behavior to change. If I were to use a bass with more than 4 strings now it'd be a 5 string with a high C instead of a low B, I like chording with the high string more than having the extra low notes.
You ever try 8 or 12 string basses? I'm also intrigued by 8 string basses. I've heard you can tune the octave strings very slightly out of tune to the root string and you get a massive sound from the bass. I'm not keen on any players known for using 8 ad 12 string basses, but I feel like there are some cool possibilities to how you use it. High gear nerd factor, but still could be fun.
