Computer Advice

Post by KYLESTYLE »

I'm buying a new computer (desktop) and I don't know whether to fork out more and go Mac or do PC. If you're a nerd or just knowledgeable, help me decide.

Also, I want it for: simple music recording, video editing, and illustrator/photoshop. And school. And porn. Mostly porn, actually. Like, SUPPPPPER HD shit. No really, help.

I go with PC's because they're open system and can be fucked with and upgraded. Mac's are closed system, so can't. That being said, Mac's are GREAT for everything you seem to want, so I dunno. Both have their pro's and con's.

Of course, Kevin or Scott will come on here in about ten minutes and point out how wrong I am :ugeek:

You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.

Well I am always gonna promote Linux over everything else cause its free and all the software you'll ever need is open source and it's WAY more bad ass than people think, but I dunno how it is for Music/Video editing though as I am unfamiliar with any programs available (but that doesn't mean they don't exist). Gimp is an open source program much like Photoshop, which I use regularly and unless your super hardcore, it will do everything that you want photoshop to do. There are also versions of Gimp available for windows and Mac as well. Another big plus if you went Linux is that you can save money by buying a computer with no Operating System, which people don't realise that they are paying for when they buy a new computer. Most people are usually unwilling to give Linux a chance when you suggest it, so in that case I would definitely Mac over windows. I have completely rid my life of microsoft and it is great!

BTW, if you are interested in Linux the best/easiest to use version is Ubuntu, check out http://www.ubuntuforums.org if you wanna find out any specific things, the people there are always willing to answer questions from new users.

A mac probably makes sense for you. That being said, they're super lame. So I guess you're lame, bro... Sorry :(

the cost is an issue... Macs are expensive. I can get a pretty balling PC for $1100 and to get the same specs in a Mac I'd be paying $2500 ish...

But then I know Macs have great longevity... The components just are as good in the Macs, but I still feel like they're better... inherently maybe. which doesn't make sense.

This is how i have always felt that if i got a notebook it would be macbook. but when it comes to desktop computers i REALLY like to have a tower that can be upgraded etc to expand the lifespan of a computer. So go with a nice tower (use windows or linux or whatever you want to put on it)

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. If you get one or the other, you can fuck around with it to fit your needs. I use my XP-based netbook for everything (except for REAL gaming [not counting roms]), but I've got a good array of programs and applications that give me the features I really like in OSX and W7.
I would say PC for the reasons that you can fuck around with it more than you can with a mac, but other than that you can find software to have it run how you want.

Already knee deep in mine... My computer was faster than yours, but your room felt more dangerous.
