Northern are local instrumental epic!

Show will be 6 dollars. Its 2 out of town bands on a sunday, come show your support so they tell all of their friends to keep taking the ferry over on their tours, even on a sunday! I am also going to try to get a good drink special for the night as well.

Bands start at 9 sharp, the show is going to be a little earlier to help accommodate those taking transit.

I will be coming, albeit a tad late. Hopefully I'll still be able to catch Mares of Thrace. DOOOOOM.

I showed up half way thru Anion's set.. pretty good turnout for a Sunday night now. V lounge needs to get some bike-racks as it was completely frustrating trying to find a place to park our bikes.

Mares of Thrace really impressed me.. great song writing and flawless execution. Both members were really good musicians and their tone was great. Really jealous of the baritone Jaguar guitar.

Anion were tight and really loud.. I thought their tone lacked a bit. For this style i'd prefer a little less volume and better tone.. but most people seemed to be pretty into it.

Too bad Northern didn't play but I did get the chance to pick up a CD which will soon be in my van.

about Anion's tone, I suspect it was largely because of the weird situation. from what I could tell... the drums were mic'd, the vocals were going through some crazy amount of compression and being pumped through giant speakers above our heads, and the guitar was simply going through the cabs. the overall effect was lots of low frequency emphasis on everything but the guitar which made it sound really raspy.

I agree with what you said about Mares of Thrace. those guys were amazing musicians. the guitar was so low in the mix though! it sounded like drums, vocals, and PA sfx with a little bit of guitar in the background.

i was standing right in front of the guitar stack so I could here it fine! things did sound pretty noisy in the back which is where I was for most of Anion so that could have been part of the problem.

Anion's guitar player uses an older Ampeg guitar amp which is not my favorite sounding guitar amp.. i just thought that generally the band could stand to turn down a bit to get more definition. From where I was I could barely make out a riff. It was the same when we played with them at the Sunset room. Although that sort of reckless abandon when it comes to tone does suit the music just fine.
