Sept.11 a day in review:
Jakob's BBBQ: Quality people and quality food. I laughed a lot at this bbbq. Too much fun.
Consequence Crew: Couldn't get into the room well enough so I stood outside and watched through the window. The tunes were quality ragers. Hopefully they play more than this one show.
Damages: Everyone already knows my love for this band. Everytime I see this band they blow me away and I've seen this band like 10 times. The crowd went off during the Black Flag cover. sweet band even sweeter dudes
Circles: I slept on this band for so long but damn these guys fucking rule. I moshed during the one fast song it was grand.
Not Sorry: This band is one of my favorite current bands and they met my high expectations. This was the first band to really get the crowd moving. Minor Threat was covered and it was magic
Keep It Clear : up there for my fav current band and they ruled. I moshed hard
In Stride: What can I say? these guys tore the place up. I don't think i've sweated more at a local show.

Overall the best show of the year. A great farewell to a great man

this is my show review

consequence crew topped my expectations by a thousand. i hadn't heard about who was in it or what they'd sound like and with a name like that i expected some kind of thug-core/youth crew worship. it wasn't either of those. plus chad headbutted people and that reminded me of wesley willis, which is always rad.

damages anything positive i say about damages will be redundant after talking about them for so long, so i spent their set looking for flaws.
-motor tried and failed to ham it up for keith
-andrew bent over at one point. fell asleep? amateur hour shit, man.
-heig stepped on my toe
-carl wasn't lunging as far as usual
but they also played six pack, hoooooly fuck was that awsome

circles the almighty dave mac reminded me of bono when he sang for some reason. their guitarist (adam?) was wearing a pulp pin. propppssss. it sounded kinda like hot snakes meets embrace and the smiths.
super bummed i'd never seen them before, but i'm glad i got to before motor moved.

not sorry i don't really like it too much when bands songs have straight edge as the central theme, but not sorry ripped. and they said what we were all thinking: why did damages play six pack to a room full of straight edgers (5th fuckin flaw.)
they covered straight edge and somewhere ian mackaye smiled.

keep it clear no videos, just mosh.

in stride wow i can't believe i missed this band over th years. everything i imagined a hardcore show would be like when i was a kid. a perfect ending note on what i'm going to agree on hunter and darren's verdict of the best show of the year.

Damages did not expect 6 pack to happen. also didnt expect the room to move like that. holy fuck this band rules
Circles it just dawned on me that i might not get to see this band for a while, major bummer. but i am very glad that after all these years d mac finally welcomed me into the scene
Not Sorry seattles best! J25 is a great frontman. minor threat cover was off the chain!
Keep It Clear HOLY SHIT! who the fuck starts a set off with where it went by judge. insane way to kick things off. andys banter was hysterical as usual.
IN STRIDE band still steals the show in 2010. blue monday cover was a great touch!

in strides set was so incredible and it made me happy. i first saw them in 2004 and loved every show i saw them play until they broke up.

the energy last night was wild, im glad so many people came from afar for it, including us. i saw alot of people that i havent seen in a long time since i stopped going to vancouver shows, it was a really strange feeling being there.

i was really into not sorry although i had to go outside before they finished due to that room being too hot and smelly. keep it clear was just as rad as i was expecting them to be. that was the first time i saw circles and i was impressed. was that dave mac on the mic? i havent seen him play in a band for years so he looked really different. everybody that played ruled, unfortunatly i missed consequence crew due to standing at the wrong bus stop for a long time. i feel like the transit in vancover has changed alot since the olympics which made my trip very confusing. damages will always be one of my favorites. please play victoria every weekend forever.

all the other bands ruled though.

Consequence CREW: Good. Was in hallway for their set as I arrived just as they were starting.
DAMAGES: So fucking good. Black Flag cover FTw. There has never been a show they've played that was bad that I've seen(I doubt there will be one!)
Circles:H-A-R-D-CORE! The Almighty Dave Mac FTW.
Not Sorry: First times seeing these guys. Love them. I was glad they did a MT cover and was glad lots of peeps knew the words to their regular songs!
Keep It Clear: Great like always!
In Stride: Only my 2nd time seeing them. Fucking great. Black Flag cover??LOlz loved the Blue Monday cover.


Overall: Easily the show of da year. Shit was hot,sweaty and funn! Wish every show was like this but of course they won't. Great show for a great Drummer/person!

Okay, doing this on my phone so we'll see how well this works.

Consequence Crew- missed them because of the need to eat. Heard there was an OLC vibe and got super bummed i missed that. Next time.

Damages- great set. Played Six Pack again, has yet to get old.

Circles- caught two or three songs that were excellent. Band is seeriously good. Unfornately i couldnt get into the room and got bored with atanding in the hall so didnt catch it all.

Not Sorry- raged. Do you know how often i dig youth crew? Almost never. So onto this band and holy shit what a set.

Keep it Clear- caught a couple of songs, which were good but not my style. Saw Carl on bass and that was neat.

In Stride- im still sore and all i did was stand against a wall. I can only imagine what kids who actually moshed feel like. Goddamn this was amazing.

Great show, thanks to everyone who helped put it on. I did my best to do my drinkin well off venue property. I noticed what looked like the venue owner yelling at Carl while holding empties. I really hope i wasnt a part of that, and if i was im sorry. I know how shitty a situation like that can be from experience.

* this is not aimed at Willa, Willa gets it and doesnt shit on venues and keeps his beer drinking away from venues.

Re: the drinking. I don't think there was much drinking happening in the venue, which is good. However i did see the guy who works at Casa (not the owner) come back multiple times from across the street with grocery bags full of empty PBR cans. Casa won't book shows through certain promoters now due to all the drinking that occured at their shows, but hopefully since this was a pretty isolated incident it won't be an issue with Carl booking shows. I'd surmise that the people drinking across the street and leaving cans everywhere aren't the usual people who go to real vancouver hardcore shows so they probably don't give a fuck whether or not it causes venue problems.

by now you would think that people would get it. but i gues not. well when vancouver and victoria eventually have zero all ages venues to rent for shows, ever... maybe somebody will get the picture.

not everyone conforms to the same definition of hardcore so despite how lame you think it might be to be drinking at an all ages show it doesn't mean you don't care about hardcore music.
