new hot sauces arriving to the troyler collection

Post by tylerp »

one of our hobbies at the troyler is to collect and use hot sauces. pretty much anytime I make a stir fry, soup, chili, hot dog, burger, mexican food, sandwich, or whatever, I'll add one of our hot sauces and get stoked. troy is pretty down as well. we have since converted one of our fridge door shelves to display them.

after months of deliberation I finally gave in and ordered some of the hottest hot sauces. partially because nothing we have is really -that- hot, partially out of sheer curiousity, partially because death by hot sauce seems like a rad way to go. most of these are supposed to be used as a food additive, ie. a drop or two in a bowl or batch of food.

Image

mad dog 357. some dude on a message board suggested it and I've been curious ever since. lots of videos on youtube of people eating a spoonful and freaking out. reviews say it's pretty tasty too.

Image

http://www.chez-williams.com/Hot%20Sauce/hothome.htm ranks this one as one of the hottest hot sauces that are still considered hot sauces and not pepper extracts. plus blair's makes the best potato chips I've ever had (hit up the macs and try them if you liked thunder crunch hot wings chips from the 90's). and they also make the world's hottest pepper extracts, though those are ridiculously expensive and relatively flavourless (all heat, no taste). anyway, I'm hoping this one is good. I want to believe.

Image

supposedly this one is in the guinness book of world records as the hottest hot sauce. plus I wanted to combine on shipping since it was pretty much the same amount for one kind as three different kinds. I have a feeling this is the scariest one. some reviews here have graphic tales of people with very adverse reactions. so I'll probably just try it in a giant batch of food and see how it goes.

ANYWAY there's not much point to this thread. I guess we're taking applications for the first person to be stupid enough to try a spoonful and subsequently pass out or crap their pants. I'm probably only going to use these as an additive because I like hot food and I'm not a masochist.

I'm a big fan of Sriracha. It's got a good mix of sweet, sour and spice. I've had a few that are hot and....just hot. I NEED SOME MOFOIN FLAVA.

sriracha is good. pretty garlic-y though. we have one of the giant squeeze bottles of it. doesn't suit a lot of my hot sauce uses but works really well for stir fries, noodles, etc.

The first time I saw High on Fire I bought a HOF hot sauce they were selling. Some company was selling metal themed sauces

I never did crack it open, it should be around my room somewhere

satans blood, bro.

hottest sauce i've ever had. A tiny dot on my tongue and my face was on fire. my buddy took about a drop or slightly more and his face went numb, his nose was gushing and it was crazy.

Tyler what do you think is the most flavorful hot sauce? I like hot sauce when it adds flavor, I think hot sauce that is tasteless but burns your tongue is lame.

I have heard that reaction from other people and have trouble identifying with it. I'd like to think that there is some wide spectrum of flavours that includes that burning heat. like flavour is a complicated thing. anything that's less than pure capsaicin has some degree of various spices, vinegar, etc that produce a unique taste. it's like how... if you were to order an extremely hot thai dish or a very hot curry or suicide hot wings, all would taste very differently despite sharing the common tongue-burning. but in some hot sauces, the flavourful portion is easier to identify because it is more prominent by having a lower capsaicin content. which totally has its place in the majority of situations and sounds like what you'd prefer. but if you treat a hot sauce as an additive ingredient, it just complements the food with a good burning kick, and I think that's my goal with some of these. just to try, at least. it's also important to note that lots of hot sauces derive their "kick" from different kinds of peppers.

it's tough to pick a favourite flavorful hot sauce. I like a wide variety. we currently only have pretty weak ones in comparison to this, which I love a lot and you'd probably like too. "denzel's fire hazard" is one that we had on our roadtrip and loved enough that we got becky to get some more on her last trip to summerland. it has a really unique flavour that I can't really identify. we went through a whole bottle while on the road. though at the start I was accidently slathering it onto hot dogs and that was way too much to use. also there's this tony roma chipotle hot sauce that we really love and has a lot of side flavour that you'd like.

Chipotle stuff is really good for a nice, smoky flavour.

Yeah, I like when the heat and flavor are both there, not just the burning sensation.

Send us a text message reminder after Oct. 1st and I'll see if I can find some hot sauce in California for you.

No joke, if you buy me a giant bottle of Tapatio I will love you forever. Like, big. Two liters, if possible. I love that stuff and finding it is near impossible in this city.

Is Tapatio a brand, or a type of sauce?

Willa they have tapatio in fairway market (by our house) in the mexican food section (not with the hot sauces). small bottles but it's only like 1.50 a bottle or something. it's pretty typical but very very good.

True story: I am a HUGE pepper fan (to the point where i put it on 80 percent of the food i eat). And one of my favourite things is Ketchup with a TON of pepper. Just mix that shit up and BAM, the best way to eat french fries ever!
