KYLESTYLE wrote: Also, this issue is not black and white. For example, I support being a freegan way more than any other food-stance. It's not the act of ingesting food that is unethical, it's the harming of sentient creatures. If they're already harmed, and will be wasted (thrown in trash), it makes more sense to not waste it to me.
Although I'm inclined to agree, my assessment of the issue is that veganism is crucial, while freeganism definitely isn't.

Props to Willa for his posts in this thread.

i agree with kyle. when i'm preparing food for myself/shopping i always cook without meat, and try to dairy free, but if i'm out to dinner with friends and one of them opts to throw away their food i generally ask to finish it for them. alot of people might call it weak will, but i can't stand to see waste. i think i get it from my grandpa.
i've been experimenting with freeganism lately though (it helps that i go to school right next to the granville island market) i just like the concept of eliminating the extremely wasteful aspect of our diet.
and i'm broke....
regardless though, there's a shocking amount of perfectly good produce getting thrown out. even if you're not comfortable eating it, seeing a dumpser full of slightly bruised but otherwise good apples is such a weird thing to behold.
gonna do some coke off my doom cannon if you get my drift

Thanks. I don't get enough chances to talk about this sort of thing so I usually jump on it whenever I can. Good to know I'm not coming across as pushy.

Salt
Pepper
Cumin
Nutritional Yeast
Rotini Noodles (I like the spirals)

Would like to try. I'm ignorant to using nutritional yeast in cooking, I need you to get me wise to this Willa.

I've been doing a most lo brow mac'n'cheese (and more unhealthy), which is Daiya, margarine and a spoonful of tofutti cream chesse (for creaminess, but not too much or it gets an unpleasant soy aftertaste), S+P, Italiano spice blend, and raw "parmesan cheese" made from walnuts. Sometimes I'll add asparagus and/or veggie bacon. I like rotini more than macaroni too.

I tend to use Nutritional Yeast like a spice, so generally I throw it in to taste. I would hazard that I'm usually putting in about a tablespoonful, give or take.

Good call on the Tofutti Cream Cheese. I'm definitely gonna give that a shot. I like adding broccoli to mine, but then, broccoli is something I could eat every day.
