Fallout: New Vegas ruins my life/rules my life

Post by Andrew »

So Carl and I both lucked into bronchitis, so I've been laying around hating life for days now and developing my addiction to Fallout: New Vegas. I'm not a video game guy, so it's all the worse when I play one because I'm easily wowed by them and they suck me in bad.

Anyone else on the Fallout: NV needle right now?

FUCK. YES. I was absolutely addicted to Fallout 3, and this one is even better. Unfortunately, my computer badly needs an upgrade so I've got to run it on the lowest settings (and it still crashes) but it's still fucking awesome.

That might not just be your computer man, the game was released with some serious bugs that caused lots of problems with crashing. You might be able to get a patch to help it run more stable.

I wish I could play it on PC, I hear they have some sick mods for it on the PC.

Loved Fallout 3 too. I played Oblivion to death too. I think I'm not a video game guy, but I am a Bethesda video game guy.

What are you tailoring your character towards?

I tend to play through the first time with a chaotic good type (FUCK YES D&D) cuz that tends to be the easiest way of playing the game. I'll steal the fuck out of stuff, but will always gain enough Karma to keep me solidly in the good range.

After that I'll play through again as pure fucking evil, then try and be a saint, then try and do it without killing ANYONE.

Which will be hard.

Very, very hard.

Thats what she said

played this through until near the end, lvl 30 w/ melee specialization, remnants full armor set

I'm usually evil as fuck but in new vegas I've been all about myself. I'm trying for an independent finish. I like the NCR cause fuck tha police. but, as much as I'm down with slavery and crucifying bros, Caesar's legion just wasn't doing it for me. and I realized I could slaughter them all for the fun of it. so I did. and I just HAD to kill Mr. House because if you show me a decrepit dying body, how could I not brutally kill it?

I'm bros with the brotherhood (as usual, their equipment RULES) but I kill them in their sleep with Mr. Sandman and sell their own equipment back to them to get some more caps.

did I mention my character looks like my girlfriend?

also that deathclaw home turf is freaky. but I powered through it as best as I could.

troy and I are playing fallout 1 now. he's played it a lot but I haven't. in that, I'm specializing in unarmed and going for a character with unarmed specialization and lots of attacks / high crit chances.

also I feel like it might not be hard to beat the game without killing anyone. in Fallout 3 I felt like combat was pretty necessary, but in this one there's so much talking in the main quest line. it made me regret not taking much in speech/barter and thus failing most of the speech/barter checks.

thankfully I had a pretty high science and lockpick so I could get the stuff I wanted. lots of my skills I tailored towards getting certain perks geared towards melee bonuses.

FINALLY got around to playing this tonight.

For a change of pace doing an neutral / good leaning character.

Fallout 3 never finished main story line got distracted. never played DLC content either.

Fallout 2 i played once and not all the way through so need to finish that

Fallout 1 i have played countless times.

Fallout Tactics i just dabbled.

that is the extent of my fallout playing.

Been loving New Vegas alot.
Been a pretty good guy. Mostly working with the NCR, but I have been helping the Followers of the Apocolypse behind their backs.

oh god do i ever want this game.

but it seems like at this point in life, i'm a wannabe gamer. i rarely even play games i bought awhile ago, like red dead redemption. i bought it on launch day and have only done about 20% of the game so far.

my cousin bought new vegas and apparently played it for 40 hours in 48 hours, then gave his ps3 away.

but as a huge fan of the entire fallout series, even the ps2 action shooter game, new vegas looks so great to me. i'll probably get drunk and buy it soon, who i am kidding.

SPOILER WARNING: I'm going to occasionally mention things you might not want to hear about the game. Be forewarned.

I'm in the "chaotic good" camp too, I find the game is easier to deal with if you are (pissing everyone off makes it hard to do much else but kill off each faction).

My favorite character is tailored to being a sniper. The Anti Material Gun is bad ass, but if you get the silencer and weight reduction kit for the regular sniper rifle it kicks ass. Recon Armor or Chinese Stealth Armor, Rebreather and First Ranger beret and I'm set.

However, I'm trying it with an unarmed fighter now. Just got Pushy, it's ridiculous. Punching people and they go flying or you literally knock their head off.

What companion(s) is everyone favoring? I like Boone best.

The game world is so elaborate. I've gone all over the map and I still keep hearing about places I havn't been. It's awesome.

I havn't tried all the companions, but Boone seemed best to me. Raul I thought was useless, and annoying. Give Boone the Oh Baby! Suersledge and he's formidable in melee combat and delivers headshots with the sniper rifle on demand.

If anyone scores any sweet unique weapons or armor fill me in.

The Great Khans refused to both stop selling chems and end their alliance with The Legion so I slaughtered everyone of them.

yo get that remnant's armor set, it's really cool.

I got over companions. I'm a lone wolf now. the game is just more fun for me that way.

Can't say I've played F3 or any of the add-ons. I haven't had too much cash to drop on games lately, but I'll probably pick up a GOTY edition or something when it comes out.

The GOTY edition is out for Fallout 3 and it includes all the add ons.
