Any chance your glasses fell in the back of your amp rack?

show looked fun. A decent amount of people showed up to. I guess it was a house show so no one really knows but about how many people where there?

made about 270 ish from donations
if that was $5 a person then that is about 54 people not including bands and a few people that i let it slide that they didn't pay

Sean of Tempest and I post on the same message board (vivalavinyl) and here's what he had to say:
So, on Saturday night my band played at picklehammer's house. We've met in person before but he's never really been able to remember me. I was probably in his house for at least 30 minutes before he noticed I was there and he introduced himself.

Things I noticed about him through the course of the night:

-he has a pink bedroom. he is very concerned about the well-being of his pink bedroom, and who may be inside it (likely due to his large supply of cheap beers he keeps hidden at ___LOCATION REMOVED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT BEERS___). regardless he reluctantly let me hang out on his mattress-less bed and change the strings on my guitar and hide from people.

-the toilet paper in his bathroom is pink. apparently in his frat house the bathroom is where random sexual encounters are supposed to occur. i overheard two people making a comment about how people better not be "doing it in there" and the like while I was using the facilities. Two young girls were very displeased to see me open the door.

-oh yeah... he runs a frat house.

-he is quite the lush. his drunken rage dog persona was at a next level, and his unabashed demeanor will likely get him in some trouble in the future. he showed a genuine drunk sincerity to nearly every female present that night, and it was amusing to say the least. he also invited a vagrant who was eating off of the hood of my truck into the vehicle with us. "you almost fucked me, bro". soon after i further shamed my masculinity by making a poor driving calculation under some tough circumstances.

-he mentioned my bro jeffrey_lebowski and i can tell he is sad that jeffry is mean to him.

-he related everything back to tubey guitar goodness and seemed excited to be driving with me.

all in all, quite a far cry from the xtylerx i remember of years gone by. ;)

glad we could "bring the energy level from other bands way down". hope we destroyed your house as thoroughly as you anticipated. DAMAGES was way too good.

Thanks for the cool weekend, dude. Come hang out on the big rock with me sometime.

Between the rain outside and the number of bodies heating up the place this show was like being in the jungle. There was condensation on everything. :D
Really fun show and I was glad I could be part of it. Victoria reminds me of the Edmonton scene, a close knit community with a lot less of the "holier than thou" attitude that plagues many HC scenes. Real positive time.

I've heard good/bad things about the Edmonton scene. Some really close friends of mine are from there, but they say the turnover is so high six months in and everyone is different. Apparently makes building a serious scene really difficult. BUT I've also heard the same things your saying, so that makes me hopeful. Calgary/Edmonton hardcore has been seriously interesting lately.

Then you'll go from being lonely to wishing that everybody would just fuck off because their a bunch of fucking buzzkills going on about how 'you've got a problem" and they "just want to be their to help you". You don't need any of them. You just need drugs.

That could be true about turnover, I've only seen the Edmonton scene a couple times this year. It seems like there are staple people in the scene there though, and a lot of guys doing good bands there.

Yeah, a lot of bands coming out of Alberta right now I'm stoked on. Cold Craving, Maus, Cope, Gift Eaters, Snic, Red Hot Daggers, Voices, Book Of Caverns, etc.

I think that (like Victoria) the isolation factor makes the Edmonton scene a bit cooler. I know it can be a drag when it's harder to get out of town bands to come play your town, but not having that can also work for your scene because it encourages local activity much more. You don't end up with a lot of spoiled, lethargic people taking their local HC community for granted.

well yeah, everyone here (in every genre scene really) seems to always be so grateful when someone is willing to board that stupid ferry and play for some kids. i know i make a point to always just give a "thanks for coming to the island and not just vancouver" quick little shout when i buy merchandise or what have you

It is nice to hear that about our scene. Well i think we are actively trying to have a good attitude so we can have more people interested in coming out and not be bummed out by the attitude of the regulars. I really like where Victoria is going, a lot of new faces starting to show up.

I would really like to check out a scene outside of the northwest. Something i haven't done yet.
Then again the only times i checked out Seattle and Tacoma are for bigger shows.

It was cool that there was so much crossover; there were goth kids and rockers and punks and hc kids all at the same show and there wasn't any smack talk and everyone seemed to be having fun together.

This is true about Victoria and I love it for that.
