once I called troy out for probably falsifying his list because I live next to his bedroom and know that, of what was released in the last year, he pumped MIA and Ke$ha more than most of what's going to be on his list.

http://www.last.fm/user/dalamar501/charts
*backs me up on that claim. but now that I have called him out twice on this, we'll see if this changes.

my top 10 release list follows. the mass digestion of hundreds of new releases is an upsetting musical trend for me. I can't even begin to fathom how some people on the internet are compiling top 100 lists. most of what I listened to was old.

10) stalwart sons - burn daylights like torches
9) nadja/ovo - life and death of a wasp
8) uffie - sex dreams and denim jeans
7) comadre / glasses split
6) child abuse - cut and run
5) caribou - swim
4) otouto - pip
3) that damages record
2) loma prieta - life/less
1) ke$ha - animal

honourable mentions:
frog eyes - paul's tomb: a triumph
wolf parade - expo 86
that hot hot heat album
that hardcore band I played a bunch of times on my radio show that sounds sort of like metallica, supposedly I've seem them
maybe ceremony
I want to say tempest but I do not own the LP yet so I don't actually know
also the new maserati but it's fairly recent so I still have to figure that one out

I guess that confuses me because I don't think we really have the same taste in music, Nick (though i think we share appreciation for a lot of similar bands).

Also, I initially thought I had only heard 4 good 2010 albums, but then realised I had listened and loved a lot more. Most of the music i listened to this year was almost exclusively from the past. Also, I have no idea how people keep on top of up-and-coming hot music as there is SOOOOOO much being released, it gives me anxiety just thinking about it. I've decided to just appreciate the music that I connect with, and not try so hard to force myself to like X new band's demo/ep/full length unless it really grabs me.

Already described to you how i felt about that. For me my lists aren't purely a what i played most but also what i felt were records i enjoyed more. Some were so late in the year they didn't nearly get as many plays, some (Ke$ha) has been out since Jan. Nor does it account for the records that were listened to on my mp3 player or at CFUV. ALSO you haven't seen my entire list yet.

I can do a separate list based entirely on my last.fm account

Yeah i don't know how OTHER people really keep on top of the mass amount of music. I am kind of shown a ton of it just from seeing them come into the station and seeing the charts for our station.

True. But with your list I thought your choices were really good, or could see why someone would like it...except that one. Nothing against you, but that Ariel Pink guy seems like a bad Tim & Eric sketch, and I love Tim & Eric...just can't believe people dig it...

oh man, so true. i will put it on and it still feels like the first time i listened to it. it doesn't get old. I've tried to tell people about how great it is, but i don't think anyone believes me. that's ok.
their first album is really good too (airing of grievances).

my one qualm with last.fm is that it seems to correlate number of plays with 'like'. I will listen to an album 4 or 5 times to give it a chance, but that doesn't mean i necessarily like it. I guess in larger trends, though, and over a longer period the data will correspond better with 'likes'. i've only had mine for a couple of months so it's still fairly new.

I have thought about it a little bit. I didn't listen to a ton this year but here we go:
no order:
Tongue Tied-Demo(fuck you hunter this demo rules! Could've sworn it was released in 2009 though)
Damages- that new 7"(can't remember the name)
Lush Veg-Not In My Backyard(was this 2010?)
The Killed Spirits-Leave Your Homes
Not Sorry-Moving On
Titus Andronicus - the monitor(this might be the top album)
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
Joanna Newsom-Have One On Me
loma Prieta - life/less
the tallest man on earth - the wild hunt
mindset - time & pressure
Superchunk - majesty shredding
Cheap Girls - my roaring 20's
The Hold Steady-Heaven is Whenever(not as good as their previous releases but still a quality album)

I still haven't listened to that Tempest record enough but I am sure it will be in the top for sure. I am sure I am forgetting some more as well.

the demo was recorded late 2009, vocals were tracked on december 28th I think, it wasnt mixed or put out until I think our 3rd or 4th show in march 2010 I believe. I'm still pretty iffy on the demo, but as I said before on facebook. I dig your list
