The new Superchunk record. It's terrible. Why is this getting such good reviews? It sounds like mediocre Sloan from 5 years ago. Why do I keep giving this band my time...?

This is a band that should go in the "Bands I should like, but can't seem to get into". They always feel like a second rate Sunny Day Real Estate to me.Andrew wrote:Hell yeah.officespace wrote:

really Andrew? I thoguht it was the same old Superchunk, but I guess if you didn't like them to begin with you won't like this album. Its easily one of my fav releases of this year. One of the best comeback albums

By "same old Superchunk" are you comparing it to latter era Superchunk, or their catalog in general?officespace wrote:really Andrew? BTW, do you like Heatmiser? That's a band I associate with Superchunk in my head (though not necessarily rightfully so, they for some reason connect in my brain).
I really like Heatmiser
Re: currently listening to.
It's understandable why you associate the two bands, they came up in the same era and get mentioned in the same breath a lot when discussing music from then, but to my ears they sound very different. I do like Sunny Day Real Estate more, but think TITR are great too.Tambro wrote:This is a band that should go in the "Bands I should like, but can't seem to get into". I finally gave in and listened to Janelle Monae's The ArchAndroid after listening to Troy constantly praise it, coupled with it hitting a lot of top ten lists on the int0rnetz. It's solid.
also, today:
wild nothing - gemini
fang island - s/t (i don't get it...wtf)
atmosphere - god loves ugly
daniel fred and julie - s/t
siouxsie and the banshees - hyaena
tame impala - innerspeaker

Life sucks.
The Men and Nomos are playing Vancouver, BC on January 15th with Mundo Muerto, Fear of Tomorrow and Spectres. No word on a venue yet. Anyone from Van know anything about this?
Also, currently streaming the new Matsuri LP (http://www.texastoastdiy.com/mixtape/index.php). So stoked for the show on the 4th!
