i would like to suggest (and just hammer it back into you guys) that i think the fest should just focus on mainly northwest bands instead of bigger touring ones that come through in the hopes of a bigger draw when really not that many people care about them to make it worth paying them so much for travelling/their time ect. i would much rather see a bunch of the OurSound bands come up here than say 1 bigger band that none of us even really know thats on tour from texas.

I'm not on the planning committee for the fest anymore, but if i have any sway I'm gonna insist that Putrid Brew play both days of the fest.

Just burnt the fuck out. Last fest wasn't fun for me at all and it showed. I'd rather step away from the whole thing and let people who actually are willing to put the time and energy into making the fest fantastic than continue to do it just so I'd have something to brag about. Plus, this fest I get to party instead of stressing out like I always do.

I talk to the dudes in Young Oppression a lot. I could ask them to play the Fest again

also as a member I want to throw my opinion out there about quality vs. quantity. the fest has been increasingly about getting lots and lots of bands. last fest there were only a handful of memorable performances (opinion) over two days that dragged on and on. it might help to have way more variety, fewer bands, more known bands and fewer nobodies from really far, or some combination of all of these. two days of almost all-day music is really draining and hard on the ears in big reverberant halls. my dream fest would be one night, nine bands - two locals, a few from the northwest, a few slightly bigger or further bands, and a few awesome headliners with draw (like donnybrook, shook ones, outbreak, ceremony, you get what I mean). within this, there could be some variety as far as different styles. I also feel like this would be a lot easier on the promoters, simpler as far as money and promoting the fest, probably free up some money for the bigger bands, and require fewer people to volunteer their houses as temporary hotels.
I am not on the fest planning committee and know the stress involved and would never want to be for that reason. but this is just me having my say - that others may agree or disagree with.

Re: Hardcore fest 2011
Tyler I think you have a lot of really good points that I agree with. Having done the fest for a while now, all I can say is that it's a learn as you go experience. I can tell you that VIHC Fest 5 was a pain in the ass, but the mistakes were a good learning experience, and so VIHC Fest 6 went way smoother and was a much better fest overall. I can only assume that the guys and ladies involved with the fest this year are far, far better prepared and understand the necessities in running a fest much better this year. As well, I know for a fact that they're people who are all very very willing to listen to advice, so anything that is said here will come under consideration.

Re: Hardcore fest 2011
9 bands and 1 day isn't really a fest in my opinion. But i don't think there needs to be more bands I felt that last year had the perfect number. The fest should be a least two days 1 day would have more of a show feel and might as well just call it an all day show.

Re: Hardcore fest 2011
What you said here is damn near poetry. I could be happy to see a few more than 9 on saturday, maybe a 4 band friday kick off/meet and great/bbq, and lastely if it were legal to drink in the parking lot. Ive seen it done at one east coast fest. Re: Hardcore fest 2011
I agree 100% with Tyler. As someone who isn't really a HUGE fan of hardcore (I mean I like it and I've been to plenty of fun hardcore shows in town and have plenty of friends in the hardcore community but I'm just not enough of a diehard to sit through two full days of pretty much straight hardcore bands) it would honestly be difficult for me to justify paying $35 to attend hardcore fest to see a bunch of bands I've never heard of with maybe a few I'd actually like to check out scattered throughout. Having to pay that many bands to take the ferry seems like an unnecessary strain on the promoters (unfortunately that's just the nature of putting on shows in Victoria) and maybe some of those bands would have way more fun if they toured through here and played a rad house show with a couple locals rather than playing at 4:00 in the afternoon and being one of like 10 out of town hardcore bands nobody from here has really heard of playing that day. Looks like I'm gonna be around to check the fest out this year regardless and I look forward to it.
