the song details the personal, financial, physical and emotional trauma one must endure to remain true to yourself and the foolishness of chasing your dreams. suffer for art = suffer in hell.

this song is a collaborative effort between ourselves and fellow holy terrorist give up, who contributed to the somber outro to the song.

this song will be released in physical form soon, and will serve as a preview of what's to come on the "faith, flesh & blood" 7" record that will be detailed VERY soon but i'm sure a bunch of you already know what's up with that and can guess what is being announced about it and blah blah.

Thanks, recording with Craig Boychuck (fuck the facts / ken mode) really enabled us to get the sludgy sickness / live drum sound we were aiming for. No triggers!

Triggers, to me, are a bummer. Anyone who saw the old line up probably remembers our old drummer jeff. used to wear gloves when he drummed. Anyways, that guy hit the drums SO SO SO hard, but his kit always sounded wonky and he was strapped for cash so his skins would be pretty beat. So we used triggers to make his kit sound better on recording, even though he KILLED it on the takes, they just didn't sound really really good because either the place we were recording at couldn't get a good sound out of them or whatever.

With this recording, and with Dan's drums, he has an amazing sounding giant kit, and we wanted a boomy sound kinda like the melvins or ride or weezer (those were the kits I refferenced for the recording ha ha). It doesn't make it sound mechanically tight, but I think it sounds amazing. Wait till you hear "kingdom come" on the recording, its massive sounding.

and whats the big deal about drum triggers, you still have to be able to play for there to be a sound. in the end it keeps the sound uniform and often make setting p quicker.

the big deal is - to put it simply, in so many words: it's cheating. it makes the drums sound cold and soulless. it completely removes a great deal of the skill and precision required to play any piece, but particularly complex, aggressive music. it makes sloppy, crappy and otherwise wimpy drummers sound confident, powerful, and mechanical. you don't hear that one fill that wasn't quite as hard or as tight as the others, you don't hear that one stick click or soft, poor strike. it makes records sound flat, boring, and over-produced instead of vibrant, raw, and alive.

I wasn't talking shit on drum machines, just drummers that are so sloppy (BECAUSE OF THINGS LIKE TRIGGERS) that they have to have their drums programmed by an engineer because their takes are so awful. I've been hanging out with engineers and in studios since 2003, have played in bands with multiple engineers, and have been listening to cybergrind since you were watching Dora the Explorer, so I know what's going on.

Any engineer who does it to save you time doesn't really care. You'll notice that some of the best, most revered, and most respected drummers in hardcore don't use triggers. Most of the greatest recordings of all time didn't, either. It's not easy to write great music, and it's not for everyone.

i agree it does make some soft player sound better, but being sloppy (like of time) would be more apparent. i think it works for some bands cause its a stylistic choice. cold and soulless sound pretty cool to me. suffocations new album is triggered and it sounds great.

that being said, lets get back on point, withdrawal, you sound almost like a metal band now, like one of those classics band that influences all genres.

We are proud to finally announce that we have joined the roster of performance art groups on the A389 recordings label.

Dom rules and our first tour ever was with Pulling Teeth out west to calgary and back when we only had a demo out. We were greener than kitten shit and I'm sure we annoyed them but for some reason dom liked our (now unlistenable) demo good enough to keep in touch for a few years. Now the timing is right, and working with someone who has played in day of mourning, slumlords, ringworm, pulling teeth and more is a match made in heaven for a band living in hell.

We'll be back out west in May with Xibalba and Venia, get in touch with Bailey if you wanna get us to victoria cuz I just saw the routing and I dunno if he's gonna try and get a show there... If not, come to vancouver and hang.

Congrats! I've had a little (very limited) contact with Dom, but he was an exceptionally polite dude when I did talk to him. A389 is one of the better labels out there right now, this is gonna be excellent for you guys.

Its NOT looking good for getting us and xibalba out there. We'd be interested in trying to play out there if possible on may 30th-ish, but I would imagine the majority of you all will be at the rainfest? Itd be just us losers, no xiu xiubalba..

i think the trend with rainfest here in victoria is every year everyone gets super excited, thinks planning a huge convoy is a good idea and then it all drops off and everyone bails/sells their tickets because theyre too broke
