Re: Van Isle party fest 7, 2011 Get into it
runaways were in my top 3 (setfoot/horizons obviously) of day 1
can we talk about how ferocious white wards were? and how there were only about 10 people in that room? fuck, so many people missed out on probably the best set of day 2 (erode possibly tying with them)
gotta rep erode. those were the nicest bunch of travelling lads. they stayed the whole fest, checked out every single band and talked to almost everyone in that place. the nicest dudes, backed hard.
oh and another note. that was the best tongue tied set ive seen. you guys did great i like the new songs. it was nice to catch a set that wasnt plagued in tech problems for once (thats not a diss! but the only other 2 times ive seen there were problems)

White Wards were sooo much better live than on record...decent set for sure. Negative Press are sooo much better recorded than they were live...Grunge-core...weird.

Ups:
Stagedives, crowd surfing and giant pile-ons
Griever, runaways, erode, ringleader, set foot and well pretty much everyband!
My crew who without, well shit like this wouldnt happen
Ambrosia for the fest was perfect venue
"special cookies"
Downs:
People in bands who disrespected ebony and the society, get bent!
Day 2 delayed by bands refusing to use the stage that was already mic'd and set up - the backlibe was ok, granted - but still, it drove our kind sound guys up the wall!
Super low turnout.
Losing alot of money
Back pain

Re: Van Isle party fest 7, 2011 Get into it
I had a great time, and I was really happy with the line up. The bands were incredible.. a real mix this year! I loved seeing everyone go crazy for whoever it was that they wanted to see the most. I had fun watching the crowd get into it, especially bands that we have never had here and who were total strangers to Victoria.
I met some of the nicest people this weekend. I made some true friends and had a great time with current ones. There were a handful of bands that I would have back here any given time. People that truly love what they do for the sake of happiness and good times. There are however, people that I could never have back and be fine with it. Unfortunatly some people ruin things for others, and when one negative ass hole represents his home and his band with a nasty attitude and a cold heart it ruins peoples weekend. And personally, breaks my heart.
I'd like to thank everybody for being so wonderful, those who helped us out, and those who attended. I've never seen a turn out like that beore.. But hey.. Those who were there wanted to be there for a reason, and I'll be invoved in doing this forever just for those people even if the crowd gets smaller. Pauly, Troy, Zach, Scott.. I am very lucky to get to organise events with you and you are all very wonderful guys.

Re: Van Isle party fest 7, 2011 Get into it
I only saw part of saturday because of work but here were my thoughts on all the acts, there was nobody I thought was awful or out of place. Some bands I was just way more into than others:
BURNING GHATS - Reminded me a lot of A Javelin Reign. Pretty intense stage presence.
OUT OF SIGHT - Very good straight ahead stuff. Loved Chad's vocals, which almost sound death metal. Will be trying to keep up with this band more
BLACKWATER - Only caught a bit of because I needed dinner, but what happened to their vocalist? They were pretty neat though.
NO EULOGY - Mooks.
TONGUE TIED - Saw them at two years ago and they were pretty cool. This year they sounded excellent, and I should have been keeping up with them. Vancouver is kicking further butt in hardcore!
STATIC THOUGHT - Chatted with the lead singer about the scene from his area because he was wearing a Punch shirt/Comadre hoodie, haha. They were awesome musically too!
HORIZONS - Such a fun set. Can't wait for them to finally release a full length.
MAUS - Hugely stoked on their set. Was so monstrous sounding. Their vocalist/bassist is fucking menacing when he plays
GRIEVER - Wish I picked up the LP! Very solid sounding, and different enough from Lewd Acts so as to not seem like they're milking their former ideas. Awesome that they are doing something "different". Great presence, great riffs, nice dudes. Hope they come up here again!
SET FOOT - Every time I've seen this band play it's fun city. Always looking like they are having a good time. Giles's shoes were tight.
CLASS OF 1984 - Great to see more straight ahead punk rock. I've seen members of this band around town, and I once chatted with the drummer on the bus about music. I was pretty impressed!
OPEN RELATIONSHIP - Was cool too. Didn't recognize the one cover, but someone told me it was Jet Boy? Fun stuff.
WATCHER - Thanks to Keith for his cuteness during our set.
WAR ELEPHANT - Were heavy! Pretty good.
RINGLEADER - I think I missed these guys
OLD PROBLEMS - Saw some songs, was pretty decent.
INVASION - Hugely surprised by this band! Loved the vocals, cool songs. Rad.
ERODE - Seemed kinda the most "metal" at the whole fest. Were pretty tight.
WHITE WARDS - Very intense. Such a bunch of unassuming looking dudes. Vocalist is a madman/wolfman/manman.
WHITE RIBS - Kris Babering.
Huge props to Pauly, Zach, Troy, Ebogner, Scottly, Kevin, and all the other little people that made this fest the sexiest yet.

Top 5
Runaways: I already knew these dudes were gonna be the biggest hit of the fest. Fucking awesome. I had fun hanging out with them at Troy's every night
Out of Sight: Duh
Victim less Crime: Most underrated band of the fest. There was like 6 of us inside for this band everyone listen to them!
Erode: So much fun. Awesome dudes as well
Blackwater: Tight as they were last year. glad people were inside to watch them this time
HM:Watcher/No Eulogy/Ringleader
Also good job for the committee for getting a venue that was basically perfect. Bummer about the shit at the end of day 1 bands like that just need to be ignored as well as the moronic bro that support that shit. No cool guys in hardcore big ups to the dudes in Blackwater. Why did Unfun drop off the fest?
Bands were better off the stage shoulda just set it up that way if possible. But w/e
