Re: currently watching thread
Watching a lot of Anime at the moment (I luvem Crunchyroll):
"Fist Of The North Star" which is quite possibly the most metal show ever made.
"Gintama" (made to episode 50, only 200 more to go). Super funny pisstake on Japanese pop culture, every episode I have seen is has had a lot of laughs.
"Level E" which is really weird mix of comedy and horror / action that is chock full of WTF? moments.
"Parasite Dolls" Olderschool, gritty sci-fi Anime with an Akira like art style. Liked it a lot.
Films:
"The Million Dollar Hockey Puck" (VHS)
A Canadian kids movie with a crazy often dischordant synth soundtrack and plenty of greasy footage of 1975 Quebec that ends with some shenanigans at a Habs game and one of the stars practicing with the team!
"Kill Factor" (VHS)
Great, silly B attempt at a James Bond / Chop Sockey hybrid complete with "Odd Jobs" and George Lazenby. Has a gun battle between dudes in a helicopter and a cable car as well as a snapping turtle being used as a threat during an interrogation (I shit you not). Also known as "The Freeze Bomb".
"Ninja The Violent Sorcerer" (VHS)
Batshit crazy Hong Kong hybrid car wreck of a film that mixes Ninjas, hopping Vampires and gambling. Quite possibly the most abrupt ending ever. Super funny dub and thoroughly entertaining.
"He Died With A Falafel In His Hand"
Rewatched this one on Netflix. Ultra funny midlife coming of age from down under. Must see.
Still got a stack of VHS to work through. . .

Shit I almost forgot . . .
"World Gone Wild" (VHS)
Entertaining post-apoc starting Bruce Dern as a drug addled Vietnam vet shaman and Adam Ant as a smarmy evil cult leader. Can't believe I hadn't seen this one before. Totally watchable.
Cheers

Re: currently watching thread
"Happy People: A Year in the Taiga" Dmitry Vasyukov + Werner Herzog
Beautifully filmed and and worth watching yet at the same time superfical and unquestioning fluff piece on the lives of trappers in Siberia. What makes it particularly odd is that it could have easily been filmed in northern BC / Yukon / NWT (I knew a guy that came from a family of trappers when I lived up north in my earlier teens that could have been the son in this film).
The dudes are bad asses, no question but would have liked to haven see some big picture examination (why does this industry exist at all) as well as the reality of small town living beyond some token drunk first nations folks. Or less of the National Geographic pandering voice over bullshit.

Re: currently watching thread
lately I've been watching adventure time. It's quickly become my favourite show, I don't really know how its a kids show more than helf of it must be flying over their heads.
I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys thing like fun, having fun, and fun times, also dungeons and dragons.
I've also slowly been working my way through the hellraiser series, two more left and I'm done. everything after 2 has been pretty silly, with 5 being the best of the sillyness.

Game 7 of the 1979 Stanley Cup semi finals. The hated Boston Bruins vs. The Montreal Canadiens. Holy shit, watching Guy Lafuer fly up and down the ice is like watching poetry in motion.
I grew wings and a beak just to stay on my feet.

i love having a dvr. any ways been watching lots of adventure time still. ive seen 90% of season 1 and 80% of season 2, and maybe like 1/3 of season 3. loving it.
watched that new walking dead. MEH. fingers crossed that it doesnt descend into a bunch of talking again. Thats probabbly my one complaint, still to much fuckin talking.

Re: currently watching thread
It was really good. I thought it started to lag a little just past the halfway mark, but it really picked up at the end. I'm excited to see where they take the story as I don't think they can reasonably take on the pedophile storyline from the books.
