Re: VIHC FEST VI
that sounds great! you can always have them email me with a link to their songs if they are interested. we pay everybody, and how much usually depends on how far they have to travel. we like to pay equally, but if a band has come a very long way, we generally pay them more.wolfgang wrote:There are tons of bands that would want to play a Hardcore fest in Victoria this summer...lotsa bands touring this summer contacting me about Victoria shows. WHat do you guys offer though...can you even cover all the bands ferry costs???

Re: VIHC FEST VI
i think it would be rad to have more of the big(ger) bands, and to have less of the similar sounding, smaller, straight-ahead hardcore style bands (obviously no problem with some of those though, it is hardcore fest afterall), to draw more of a crowd and keep everyone interested. i think realistically its hard to get many people to pay 30 dollars to see a ton of bands they dont know, when it could be a few less but more well known bands. take ska fest for example (im not suggesting you go to ska fest though). its probably not possible (and im sure i dont have the best grasp on what is) to do exactly what we want yet, so take this with a grain of salt. not to try and sound like i knowany better ive only ever put on one or two shows, and i totally appreciate any version of hardcore fest. just my feelings.
bands like bison and fucked up would be perfect for this. other bands id be stoked to see are broadway calls, dangers, ruiner, living with lions, voices, bogus tokus, a textbook tragedy, polar bear club, shook ones, bane, graf orlock, converge..... blah blah blah im sure you get it.
i know a lot of people who almost always go to and pay for hardcore shows but didnt go last year because there just wasnt anyone they wanted to pay 18/30 dollars to see. throw a couple bigger names on there and im positive you could sway all those people.

Re: VIHC FEST VI
Thanks for some input!
This is exactly what we want with this fest. We know only having small bands makes it hard for people to want to pay $30. This is one of the reasons we went in the direction to form a Society (we really did take a look at Ska Fest). Anyways hopefully in the coming years we can make use of all those random grants the government has. Hilarity will ensue as we will be using government money to put on a hardcore fest. We really want to get a bigger name to headline it would be awesome. Also this thread is great to get input of what bands we want people to contact. Really we want to make this the best possible fest.

Well, last year was a bit of a gamble. We had never worked as a group before, never done a two day fest before, never worked with the White Eagle Hall, etc. etc.
Basically there was a huge learning curve that we had to work with, and we definitely made some BIG mistakes. But, we pulled it off, and made it as much of a success as we could. There were also some serious unforeseen difficulties in regards to bands canceling last minute/miscommunication/border problems.
So, basically I'm saying: I get it, last years didn't have the turnout any of us wanted, but we've learned and are applying those lessons to this years.
As for bigger bands, I'd love to do that. Seriously. However, it's quite often a lot more difficult than you'd expect, and sometimes a larger band just won't speak to us because we're too small. I tried (and failed miserably) to get Ringworm to come out last year. This year, we have some headliners we want to ask, but if they don't even acknowledge our existence, there's just not much we can do about that.
I'm sure Ebony will throw those band names on the GIANT list of bands we already have. Thanks for the input dude. We'll do our best.
